Cindy's '99 Ranger became problematic at 73,000 miles. Replaced last night with a '16 Camry. About as exciting as a refrigerator, but considering that my pool hall junky "honorary nephew" drives an old Camry with 260,000 on it's odo without ever having the pan or heads off, maybe it'll last a spell.

Cindy also drove Accord and Fusion. Preferred the Camry. Whatever....yawn.

If you need a car for transportation, nothing wrong with a Camry. Wife had one for ten years, & we sold it w/ 125K on it for a third of what we paid for it. I'd like her to get another one. She is just a car user & that's it. An old friend needed a car. He's absolutely not a mechanical person (PhD in Nuclear Engineering) , & we went to the car show to look at new cars. After looking at & sitting in all the cars, the Camry had the (mostly) best seat comfort & ergonomics. That's what he ended up buying. He bought the Camry hybrid, which Consumer Reports rated as the lowest cost car per mile to drive. Can't get a much more practical approach.

Ha! I got you beat... I joined the rolling tin box crowd... just grabbed the cheapest highest MPG car we could get our hands on.
2015 Nissan Versa... 1600cc's of road burning power... claimed 40 MPG highway getting real world 30 MPG DD driving.
Good electronics, hands-free blue tooth, pretty nice stereo, controls on the steering wheel.
Fit and finish is horrible, ride is a little harsh (but not as bad as my old Miata) CVT is weird.
I think I will he lucky to get 100K miles out of it.
But it gets the job done (freeway commuter).
Funny, I'm surfing the online Versa forms for info and kids are actually hot rodding these things... can't imagine why... not a good starting point for a 'fun' car (just IMHO).

If I needed to buy new, basic transportation I'd buy a new Mazda 3 or 6. They really do make them fun to drive.

Enjoy the new Camry though, should last a long time.

Sometimes, boring reliability is good. I mean, how many people would want a refrigerator that demands expensive care every few months? At my age, the less hassles in taking care of "stuff" the better. This one came with 2 years free shop service. "Oh, due for an oil change & tire rotation? Have fun in the dealership lounge, dear. I understand they have great coffee."
