Steam mops.
I know we should be discussing chainsaws not steam mops....
But, has anyone got a steam mop or steamer, and what do you think of it. The intended use is for when I renovate a house and pull up the old carpet, the floor below stinks of dust mites, and I thought blasting them with a steam mop would be a good way to kill them off. Usually in these situations I mop the floor with a water and bleach solution and that works well, but I'm wanting to do a no chemical clean. I'm doing up my own place and I have much loved two cats and two dogs so I don't want them walking around on bleach then licking their feet. Also it would be used to kill dust mites in the carpet and to clean kitchen/bathroom floors etc. I liked the look of the Hoover Dry Steamer as it's hotter and less steam - but slightly expensive. Some of the other ones I saw demo-ed didn't seem that hot and blasted out a lot of moisture. |
We have one of these, I really like it: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051T8XMW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Haha, dog person I see. So it's good for blasting fleas/flea eggs from dog bedding too?
I like the idea of the multipurpose attachments too, great for doing things like setting the tucks and folds in new curtains. How is it in regard to dumping a whole lot of water on the floor etc. |
I bought my wife a bissell symphony. She has never touched it, but I thought it did a good job on the floors (wood and tile).
I liked that it had a vacuum to get most of the dust up before the steam hits it. |
My girlie loves her steam mop. I don't even know what kind it is. I look at it and go "meh".

Dog Person is from Danny Devito/War of Roses, happened to be watching while reading a pet thread here.
Haven't used it for a floor yet, but it was great for blasting the crud off the fins of a residential air handler & compressor. |
We have a Shark steam mop but I think it's really just good for light mopping even on the highest setting. I don't see it working very well for serious cleanup. A quick vacuum followed by steam mop makes for a quick floor cleaning though.

I like the Shark version from costco. Not an industrial cleaner but it works great on wood and tile. |
I have one. Hardwood floors and 200+ lbs of dogs. I got it after a visit to the West coast and the person I visited had one. She used it because of flea problems out there. It's great for a quick touch up and the added bonus is the steam will kill any critters that happen to catch a ride inside.
