Which of these two Honda bikes would you buy?

From the local Craigslist. I don't really 'need' another bike...but it's so tempting to pick up a little enduro to play around with. I've always liked the early Hondas...what say you?

Choice #1) 1974 Honda XL 175

(asking price $1,900.00)

Quote:
Selling my 1974 XL175. It has approx. 5100 miles on it (as I may ride it a little till it sells). It is in excellent condition for a 42 year old bike. The battery is new, the tires are like new. It runs great and shifts great and the engine doesn't leak or smoke. It has the original complete tool kit with spare fuses as it came from the factory. It is a fun bike to ride around on. Please e-mail me through CL for any additional information. I will take hi-res pics of whatever you want to see. The Honda color is Tahitian Red" but it is actually Orange,. No trades considered.
Choice #2) 1977 Honda XL 100

Quote:
Runs and looks great. Clean title.

$1,699. Cash only. No trades.

I think that extra little bit of power cruising around town would make the 175 the one to get.

Thanks, Dean. I bet the 175 is in better condition too. Even looks like it in the pics...

Looks like your MC deal is set so here is something a little off topic, what do you think of this little air cactus in bloom?

When I was a schoolboy I had a Honda 125 and a friend had the 175. After the 125 was freshly tuned, I was at my best, the bike was at it's best, there were no hills around, they were quite compairable... But any other day of the week the 175 was a much superior bike.

These air cooled honders are so cool. That's why I bought my XR400R

No replacement for displacement. And, the 175 looks like new. Get it!

OK thanks Mike and Dan.....

What do you think about the price ($1,900)?

Seems a little high although if it's in cherry condition maybe not.

Yeah, it seems high, but offer him 12 and see how proud he really is of it... I doubt if you're gonna get into a bidding war over it!

Seems a bit high, but I have not been following the early bike values. Who would have thought 25 years ago that the long hood Porsches would be sky rocketing in price. I don't think I will ever lose money on my Honda XR650R.

Baz - I look on the local C-list at motorcycles every once in a while. Seems to me the older bikes like this are always up around $2k. I think if it's in as nice a condition as it looks to be I'd offer $1500 and see where you end up.
Worst case he says no, he might surprise you though.
Don't know until you try.

Thanks, guys...I was thinking offering $1,500 with cash in hand....and "might" go up to $1,600 if the bike is cherry...I think like you said Dan...these are collector's bikes more or less.

I bought a 1969 Honda S90 for $300 bucks a few years ago. I did nothing to it and sold it six months later for $700 bucks. Go for it.

I'd almost bet money that $1500 cash will get you that bike.

Keep the other $100 in another pocket just in case.

Good advice, Scott. Knowing me, I'll take $1,800...
