Yesterday's Historic Flight Of B-29 DOC, But Everything Didn't Go As Planned - World War Wings

I remember building one of these as a kid.

I remember the last time there were two B-29s flying. I lived near Oakland, CA and well remember "Fertile Myrtle" buzzing my house in the 1970s and early '80s.

(Flew on "FIFI" in 2014. Money well spent.)

Pretty awesome, I know some of the volunteers that have been working on it for a very long time. Amazing that considering their historical significance there are only two flying.

Fertile Myrtle had wing corrosion and almost crashed in the middle of downtown Oakland in the early 80's.

I was also used in a movie (flying).

I love any footage of WWII or even Cold War bombers. I like the bombers much more than the fighter jets. But that music...ugh.

Last week was Boeing's 100 year celebration, last Friday actually. They had everything from the very first seaplane to the latest 777 all out for viewing on our tarmac.

There are three running B29's now, the third is the factory holdover pictured here:

That was a waste of time... well, the Zero restoration was OK...

He wanted Canada to buy that pile of c..p???

An airbag will make it fly. Sure, that's the ticket.

rusnak 07-20-2016 04:57 PM

That guy is one crazy wacked out dude, but he's one hell of an airplane mechanic.

Good to see Doc up and flying. We saw Fifi at Airventure last year.

Vid is awesome. When they pictured the two pilots flying the plane my huevos shrank.

I remember your model from so many years ago. Lots of work you put into it. All the best.

I have no friends and a little time on my hands. :D

Is that the one where the auxiliary jet motor had a spill on first take off?

That is one of the most unique (strange) cockpits that I know of... couple of 'pedestals' with yokes in that glass dome thing. A Zero flying head-on would be a puckering experience.
