Anybody here want a TR3 project?

Before I put it up somewhere?
Needs some rust repair, paint, interior.
Runs, shifts, stops, all electrics work. Lots of old original stuff including the manual.
A few new parts too.

It'll be priced appropriately. PM if interested...

Now that the 911 committed suicide I don't need two cars I don't have time to fix.

Love to have it but don't have the time either. I had a '59 TR3 in the late '60s. It was one of my all time favorite cars.

Short story. Went to a garage sale around 1978 or so. I noticed it under a tarp and some boxes in the garage..100% original, manual, sales brochures, NO RUST, top in perfect condition, sliding side windows, everything worked. Forgot my checkbook. By the time I got back, 1/2 hour or so, the lady said it's no longer for sale. Husband found out the wife was selling it and he blew a gasket.

OK, 1959 TR3. What paint remains is blue.
Pros: starts (though its slow to start now since it hasn't been driven in over a year)
new spin on oil filter adapter
new plugs, leads, dizzy, points
engine bay cleaned up pretty well
new fuel pump, upgraded with handle for priming
new st steel exhaust
all lights, turn signals, etc work. Wiring is sorted and correct (man that was painful)
new or NOS badging, side wind wings, three side curtains (frames, would need vinyl)
soft top frame, no top
hard top (no back window)
original manual, old shop manual
original lug nut wrench
frame is solid
box of various bits, bumpers, spare front grill
5 steel wheels and set of center caps.

bad:
needs to be painted
rust through in right front fender, left rear fender, few spots in psgr floor
someone cut out a speaker hole in the psgr side metal
interior is toast, seat bottoms gone, old musty carpet ripped out and tossed, rubber floor mats were disgusting and torn, tossed as well.
PO replaced part of the back clip, not great, needs to be adjusted & cleaned up
Has an aftermarket temp gauge that isn't in the dash
needs a new speedo cable
still has the tires from the 60s or so

I was going to list it for $8500 which is less than some flippers are asking for cars that don't have engines that turn over.

I wish you luck but I suspect it'll sit a long time at that price.

Well she's sold and rode off into the sunset on a trailer. A couple of young guys who restore cars and wanted try something British. It looked prettier on the trailer than it seemed in the garage. It's funny, I'm kind of bummed out for some reason. But I'd never have time & it'll be cool if they can fix it up.

I can understand your being bummed out . I drove my 1958 TR3A back in the 1960's and I have not touched one since. I remember the rust in the rocker panels, the leaky gas tank(I did not smoke in it - I thought the initial gas smell was normal for that year!) . What did I know for an early 20's young man. Don't all British cars stink of something?
Well yours looked like it needed a ton of work but I understand your being sentimental about it or in your words bummed out....:(

you did really good on the price. I paid $3500.00 for my MGB. It didn't run, had four bad tires and no brakes.

Yep, you did good on that TR 3, maybe you will come across it again after it's rebirth

My Brother just sold a TR 6 that has been parked for years, but it went to someone he knows, so he will be able to see it come together. That seems to make it better than it just disappearing

Cheers Richard

Nice looking cars!
Well, I sold it for much less than I asked but that's OK, my main goal was to get it out of the garage. Actually sold it to two younger guys (prob mid-20s) who restore cars and do everything but paint by themselves, usually american and also VWs, and they wanted to branch out. Really nice guys, I'm looking forward to pictures and updates as they work on it.

I'm thinking I will half-heartedly look for something cheap-ish and already restored, local, with maybe just a few things to tinker with but that can be driven around and enjoyed. MG maybe, maybe a chrome bumpered B? I think I'll let it find me this time.
