BMW Comfort Access Keyfob FYI
I just wanted to let you guys know that
If you have a BMW "comfort access" key fob that opens your doors automatically for you, Keep the fob in your pocket. More specifically, don't keep it in your luggage and open the tailgate of the car and toss your luggage in the car and close the tailgate and then think that you're going to unlock the still-locked car with the comfort access key fob inside the locked car. Because you're not. On a side note, Denver International Airport has free lockout and jump-start service! Cheers ![]()

I did the same thing with my keys in my gym bag. Luckily the car started beeping and unlocked the trunk. What year is your car?

2008. It was locked up tight. The fob was about 2 feet from the tailgate and 5 feet from the driver door. No go.
Anyway, the unlock procedure is to push the button on the center dash once (to unlock the 'double lock' feature), then pull the drivers door handle twice.

The door locks on the 356 only work the lock on that side of the door. When I was 10 or so, Dad and I took a drive up to his office since it was winter break. Dad had gotten in, reached over, and opened the passenger door for me. So it was still locked on the outside. He leaves car running and me in it, I reach over and lock his door on the inside after he gets out. After a few minutes, I get out of the car - engine still running, Dad will be back any moment - and close the door behind me. So keys are inside. Passenger door locked from outside. Driver door locked from inside.
Fortunately his front quarter window was unlatched and my arms were still small enough but long enough to reach through, get the keys out of the ignition, and out of the car. |

Be sure to tell your neighbor kid this important piece of information.

My Xk has sensors in multiple places, it reads the signal, and decides whether the key is inside or outside the vehicle. Keys inside vehicle and vehicle locked = no dice.

My '00 BMW has a lock button on the center console. I stopped for gas not long ago, leaving the key in the ignition while I hopped out and shut the door behind me. The windows are all rolled up, and my dog's sitting in the passenger seat. Of course, the dog starts fussing around, steps on the button and locks up the car with him on the inside and me on the outside. It took about 20 minutes of coaxing to get him walking back & forth across the console until he finally stepped on that damn button again and unlocked the doors!

My wife's $18k Hyundai Elantra has a proximity key that the car can tell whether it is inside or outside and will not allow you to lock the car if it is left inside... Pretty sophisticated for an inexpensive econobox.

With the comfort access, you should have been able to activate the motion sensor under the rear bumper to open the trunk. (slow and easy kick under the license plate). If anyone is touching the lid, it won't work.

I had posted on another forum of a similar experience with our Audi A8. Went waterskiing with my SO and her kids and a kid's boyfriend. Somehow, the key fob ended up locked in the car. Even though the fob was "in proximity" the car was "smart" enough to know it had been locked and that the key was in the car (I don't know whether we locked it from inside or outside and whether that would matter)and it wouldn't allow us to access. Supose this is an anti carjack feature? However, and luckily for us, the trunk wasn't so disabled, and we were able to get in. I cut out the ski sock, and with a borrowed broomstick, a coathanger, and his mad skillz, the boyfriend fished the fob out of the cupholder and we were in.
Audi dealership had no clue other than to break a window.

Yes, if you're a fearful lady and you're in the Target parking lot and you run to your car for safety from the boogie man they don't want the comfort access allowing the door to be opened from the outside if you're in the car and want to stay that way. I think that's what the "double lock" thing is for. If you lock from the inside the comfort access won't work from the outside, or something.
