Street Tards!

Ha! Probably got ya with that title!

I dig things light, fast & fun. Been thinking about dipping my toes into a super motard for the street. I know some of you have one. Post a pic and tell us what you think about it. What you like or don't like, etc.

Any advice is welcome and encouraged.

Thanks!

I had a Husky SM610R and had to sell it after only 200 miles. Got 3 tickets and had to go to court to not lose my license. It's a pure hooligan machine and I had little self-control. Great for around town and back roads, terrible on the highway. Buy loctite in bulk and use it on every little bolt.

My kid has a Yamaha 450 that was fully built as a racebike and put on the street. Had someone declare it street legal, so it could be tagged, but no changes were made. Didn't even take off the slicks...

He loves it, I think it sucks to ride. Lots of power, very light, but too stiff. The engine, which in a motocross state of tune is pretty smooth, vibrates like a mother in the more highly tuned state that it is in now.

I have plans to build one out of a CR500 but I haven't gotten very far down the road yet.

Yeah, they're an excellent way to lose your license. As Emsley says, DRZ400 is a great way to go. Easy to find and you'll probably never lose money on it.

I had an injected CRF450R a few years ago. Great fun on go kart tracks:

Current daily go-to bike in Montana is my Ducati 1100 Hypermotard. I'm actually kinda glad it suffers from a 20% HP deficit at my altitude. Riding it around in California on the back tire was not going to end well.

This water cooled XR650 looks fun.

As someone who's only had a 75 CB400F and a 93 900SS, what's so great about the bikes above?

KTM 625 SMC here. To run the back roads and some trails, I run Conti TKC-80 Tires. On a gravel road, traction is very elusive. Happy times.
