I NEED A PARTS WASHER!!!

I have looked at the ones at harbor freight and northern tool but I hear bad things about the pumps and the fluid in that the fluid is not very good and the pumps wont work with a solvent that does a good job.

so I have this pump. MDX_MT3

if this pump will work I will go from there and figure out a tank.

I also have an old dishwasher that I considered trying to make a parts washer out of.

I have been thinking of making one too. Please post follow ups if you proceed with the project.

I just saw that this pump handles all kinds of chemicals and I think the GPM is ok.
was thinking of one of those stand alone plastic sinks. maybe put a trey in there.

now if I use the dishwasher is a different story. I have heard of people using them to clean parts but I don't know what they used for a solvent.

guess I will need some kind of filter system.

Stop by your nearest dealership, talk to the service manager, and see if you can buy theirs for scrap. You just might be able to pick up a professional quality washer for peanuts? My tech son just told me that OSHA has banned the old tank/pump parts washers. The Toyota dealer he works for now has two just sitting there with the plugs cut off..

I see the parts washer pumps put out about 3.5 GPM.
I will have to test mine and see if mine is too much.

I bought a parts washer from HF and used five gallons of mineral spirits in it. It actually worked pretty good with the recirculating fluid coming out the brush.

Since the fluid sits in the pan and not in a barrel below to settle solids, I wanted to filter the fluid with an oil filter. I plumbed it in and it worked great but out out soon went down. The filter was clogged. Tried this 3-4 times and they just kept clogging up quickly.

I wanted a parts washer until I bought a big ultrasonic cleaner. It holds about 3 gallons of soapy water, big enough to hold a 911 cam tower. Cost about $300. Load it up, turn it on, and go do something productive while your stuff gets washed. I won't go back to a chemical washer.

I have an ultrasonic cleaner I use for carbs and other small parts and it works great. But something to put larger grungy items in to clean would be nice. wondering about the old dishwasher idea the original poster mentioned... using a water based solvent. I use simple green and pinesol in the sonic cleaner with great results.

I built one out of a wash basin/laundry sink, 5 gallon bucket and HF pump. Its got a large filter on it and is mounted on a wheeled dolly. Has been working well for past 4 years. I use mineral spirits.

Total cost was under $150.

I borrowed some ideas from garage journal.

if this was only in PARF....had a great response that involved balls and barry o' supporters.

I believe the parts washers in most shops are owned by the solvent vendor. Buy the solvent and get a free washer and free service on the washer.

my pump puts out 8gpm. I tested it and it is too much.

needs to be about half that.
