Pelican Gardeners, Show Us Your Favorite Plant

I'm fully aware that Baz will show us all up , but I know we have a lot of proud gardeners on this forum. Pick your one favorite plant to post a picture, preferably something unique to your region.

Here's mine...Obviously he's looking for a spring mate:

My bad Steve. I should have thought of that. With some late winter showers, spring is in full bloom already in Ventura County. I resurrect the thread in June.

Looking good, Craig....unfortunately as you may be aware of after blooming your plant dies. The only downside of an Agave. Enjoy it while you can...and it sounds like you are.

Here's some I shot on the island back in '09:

These died soon afterwards and now there's nothing where they once stood so magnificently.....

I like way too many different plants to pick just one.

But I do love Crotons...for their interesting variations of color and growth habit. Here's a beautiful 7 gal. Croton I sourced from South Florida that is a 'Mammy" with one section that reverted back to a parent variety. Interesting specimen!

BAZ??? Please tell me you're kidding! That Agave has been there for years. Can the bloom be cut out before it flowers to save it?

Too late. Strip the leaves, ferment, and distill...

Craig...I have never tried it personally, but found this YT video of someone who claims he did save his - although his is a different species than yours...not sure if it matters.

Couple thoughts.....if you cut off the bloom spike and the plant still dies you deprive yourself of the visual pleasure of watching the flowering process.........and the plant still dies.

Also, you can always plant another one. You should have smaller pups coming up around yours.

In my line of work, it's common knowledge that landscaping isn't forever. The shelf life of plants varies according to many variables...but it's rare that you keep everything you have forever.

Enjoy what you have today and when change comes...embrace it!

I have a Carolina Reaper plant that came up from a seed back in '14. It's gone indoors for the winter each year since. Getting ready to bring it back outside soon. Last year it produced some seriously hot peppers.

I have a buddy who has a couple massive Carolina Reaper plants. Last year his harvest must have been 200+. They've got great flavor hiding under that ridiculous heat.

I'm really impressed by the amount of bio output our amaryllis go thru in such a short time when they bloom. This year was especially interesting as it seemed they bloomed late and a lot faster than last year.
