I just saw two guys diving in the pool at the same time wearing almost nothing. Not that there is anything wrong with that......

Seemed the typical scenario in cycling. Solo up front holding a 19 sec. lead for sustained duration eventually is going to fry. That trio had played it right and the fourth rider aced the strategy. Perfectly timed reeling in ms. USA. Tough loss. |
In both men's and women's road races, there were a couple of riders inn the lead who were guaranteed medals if they simply made it down the last descent without losing time, but they crashed out, allowing following riders to take the medals. Brutal sport. Bike racers are the toughest athletes around, in the suffering they undergo and the risks and injuries they sustain. This year, two pro road racers have died, several more have been severely injured (coma, spinal, etc), and broken bones are almost routine. Its more dangerous than auto racing and more grueling than marathon running.

I'm not sure I could ride by her even with a medal on the line.

Happy "21st" Michael! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1470799426.jpg |
I've posted this elsewhere, but after a very strong showing today by Team USA in Swimming and Gymnastics, the USA is now way ahead in terms of medal count. It looks like it's fairly close with China right now, but bear in mind that Track & Field competition hasn't even started yet. The US is looking like it will be a powerhouse in T&F this year, especially with Russia banned from T&F competition (except for one athlete). I predict between 20 and 30 medals for the US in the 47 T&F events. China? Not so much.

Judo medalist beaten up while celebrating on Copacabana Beach
Dirk Van Tichelt probably didn’t envision one of the greatest days of his life ending in the hospital. But that’s exactly where the Belgian judoka found himself Monday night hours after winning his first-ever Olympic medal. Van Tichelt won bronze in the 73-kg judo competition on Monday. Naturally, he went off to Copacabana Beach that night to celebrate the achievement. And that’s where things went awry. Van Tichelt was reportedly assaulted by a thief on the famous beach, and was struck in the face. He was taken to the hospital after the incident. The thief, who was reportedly Brazilian, came away with a cellphone, but, crucially, not with a bronze medal. That allowed Van Tichelt to take this epic picture the following day: http://www.sportyou.es/blog/wp-conte...an-Tichelt.jpg |
