So when are they going to import these to the US for street use?

These cars are very cool and I would think that Lotus would love to sell these to the masses in the US so whats the story on why these arent being improted for US use?
Also with the price tag that they are selling for how could one not want one of these?

I want one!!!! I was told by a Lotus rep at the 2002 LA Auto Show that they would be here in the spring/summer of 2003. They would be powered by most likely a Toyota drive train, 4-cylinder with about 190hp. The car in US trim would weigh about 1800 lbs. The car was going to cost in the high $30k's .

I haven't heard much of anything since then. These cars were so cool at the show, that myself and 2 other P-car racing buddies were totally ignoring the Saleen S7 and the Lambo Murcialago that were right by the Lotus exhibit.

My understanding is that the reason we don't see a lot of these cars is due to the massive $$$ to pass the crash test and get the cars federalized.
