Did I mention Lone Pint? - If you head over, let me know and I'll drive up.

Just got back from Tucson, and the weather was surprisingly nice. Perhaps Houston will be the same!

Wow....thanks guys....I suspect the space center will figure into it, food ideas....lots for me to check up, as for Galleria, that will depend on the friends' desires.....

The heat worries me, I get warm at about 65 degrees, consider 75 degrees quite warm and by the time I hit 90 degrees I want to lie down in front of an air conditioner and start looking around for a guy with a tail and horns.

Oh well, I am sure it will be an experience that I will enjoy, just because I like checking out new places!

Thanks all!

Dennis

Is the Space Center worth it? - Only the Level 9 tour, in my opinion. On the regular tram tour you do see the visitors center, a few building and the Saturn 5.

What is this Galleria thing and do I want to go there? - A giant multi level, high end shopping mall.

Any especially good restaurants? Tons. What kind of food? Houston is a foodie town.

Some of my Favorites: Underbelly, Caracol, Hugo's.

Tex Mex - Mexican food: Just go to a Lupe Tortilla. The Best one is VERY far from you. The "chain" ones still have the great food.
BBQ - Lots of good places around.

I'll be staying in the Woodlands area.... I'm sorry, really sorry. Not much over there for nightlife. You are nearly 30 miles north of Houston, really.

Beer - lots of very good breweries around. The BEST is very close over in Magnolia - Lone Pint. The Lone Pint Brewery, Scrumptious Texas Ales They are open from noon to 4 pm on Saturday.

Drive North on I-45 to FM (Farm to Market) 1488. Drive West to intersection with FM 1774. Cross the RailRoad tracks and turn left at second street (Commerce Street). 4 very short blocks (400 meters)

Or take the Beer Bus and visit several.

Texas Beer Bus

It is a Porsche track Weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, about 90 miles (143 km) outside Houston. Texas Motor Speedway NASCAR and IndyCar Racing

Hmmmm....lone pint sounds fine, what is your Saturday evening looking like? Masraum or any other Houstonian's interested.....I buy the first 2 rounds?

GF has trepidations about a guy who calls himself Red Beard since I have a red beard as well and she thinks I am ..... er.... nuts. But then again, I tell her that Chinese girls are nuts too!

I'm 51. I should be called gray beard....

red-beard 08-11-2016 03:46 AM

Screwed up dates. Next weekend is Texas Motor Speedway.

If the heat bothers you, don't go to NASA. It's a long drive on crowded freeways, then the only really interesting thing is the tram tour, which is 50% outdoors. That's after standing in line, outside, for an hour.

You will have wilted by then ;)

Although, we're supposed to get a cold front Sunday, some more rain and temps down to 92, 93. Good time to be outside! :D

And the rain probably means a 10% bump in humidity. Woo Hoo.

When I take the dogs out for a walk at 7:30pm, it's still about 92-95° most days. As long as you're in the shade, that actually feels pretty comfortable. It's really all about what you're used to.

I'm sure this won't copy/paste well, but

85° and thunderstorms sounds like good Houston cycling weather!

Jolly Amaranto 08-11-2016 01:56 PM

I try to avoid thunder storms. Not just the lightning but all the rain. A few months ago I turned around when I got to Arcola and found one had sprung up behind me. I tried to get home but did not make it. Was drenched to the bone by the time I got of a continence store at L J Parkway and University where I took refuge.

red-beard 08-11-2016 02:06 PM

Wet doesn't bother me. The wind and lightning, they bother me.

And rooster tails!

porsche4life 08-11-2016 09:35 PM

Red beard is a great guy, absolutely meet up with him.

If you want some Cajun fare, hit up a Pappadeux, one of my favorite things about Houston! That and Chuy's were two of my favorite spots in Houston!

Humidity sucks, but the food there is good, and the pelican peeps are top notch*. ;)

*watch out for Tom, he'll drink your beer and try to steal your woman!
