Ibanez GSR 205 - Any good?
My daughter has been looking to move up from her Yamaha 4 string to a 5 string. She has looked at some new and used in the $300 range and this came up locally for $150 used (5 months old).
For an idea what she has looked at, she has played a Fender Jazz 5 string (her favorite so far) Schecter, ESP, a Gibson Thunderbird that is way too big for her 5'3" frame and a few others including Ibanez but I don't remember her comments on them so that is probably good. She did not like the sound of the ESP at all. She plays stuff from heavy metal to classic rock. Rush to Fireflight to Pink Floyd to Metallica. Is this worth the trip to go see? I have little experience with Ibanez and what experience I do have has not been good but it has all been related to used electric guitars and bad necks and it was two of them (not mine). Her fave so far in sound and play-ability. ![]()

I say go for the Jazz, but her metal friends won't think it's legit.
![]() Ibanez basses are decent. They tend to be smaller, thinner, and lighter, which is a plus. I've had two (or three?), but eventually got rid of them in favor of beefier necks. I had neck stability issues with all of them, but the temps and humidity in my house are all over the place during the year. Whatever she gets make sure she has the opportunity to play the exact bass she'll be getting first.

That neck thing is what I worried about. She would like the smaller, thinner, lighter and is one of the things she likes with her Yamaha.
Fortunately she doesn't care what others think when she finds something she likes. Looks like she may have to save a bit longer. Ikes gets some nice used ones in now and then. This is the second Jazz they had. The other was cream colored.
