my new DD

Just got this yesterday.
Been looking for a DD to replace my 88 325is. My son wants my e30 but I really love that car.

Got this for 7k
it's an 05 with 130k on it
ALL the weak points have been addressed.
New lemforder control arms, cooling, oil leaks, vanos, you name it it's been done.
Drives amazing. Very tight car.
I have not really driven it hard but the one right hander I did amazed me.
I have never had a car that will turn into a corner like this one.
I heard these cars handle great but it really surprised me. I actually over turned going into the turn.

I can't believe the bells and whistles on this car.
Very solid and tight car.

Sweet! They really earn their name, the ultimate driving machine . We are looking to upgrade soon also .

Very nice. I have an '04 325i sedan, wonderful driving car with a terrific steering feel. I would love to have an E46 coupe as a long term keeper.

They're super easy to work on.

There's a nice-looking wagon for sale that has been tempting me for a year. Nice coupe!

Congrats on the new E46 330Ci

After 2 years of driving an '04 325i, I was also pleasantly surprised with how well it drove, the handling, power and brakes, even the AC was brilliant. Overall the BMW build quality that defined the marque during the '70s to the '90s is no longer there as the interiors deteriorate and really cheapen the car and spoils ownership.

My girlfriend was driving the car in the middle of no-where also known as North Texas and the gas pedal broke because the plastic fatigued..can you imagine that a gas pedal breaking! That's one of many tales of woe on the interior, the car is also hard on front end components for whatever reason, at least parts are relatively inexpensive, simple to repair and lots of online tips and tricks.

I sold the 325i with 129k on it a few weeks ago for $3300, that's all the money I could pull from it, nut its gone to a good home and we had our fun with it.

I have to say people are fanatical about the E46 models and I can understand why.

Agreed on the build quality, but they are damn nice driving cars. If you don't mind the cheapness and can do some tinkering, it's a great option.

x2

After a few e36's I think my next DD will be a e46.

nice car rcooled, too bad its an auto, I've always wanted to drive coast to coast

rattlsnak 08-14-2016 08:12 PM

I have the same 330 as a DD but mine has the factory aero kit and every option you can get. Love this car!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1471234310.jpg

I loved my E46 (330i). I really think they are nicer than the next generations (E90, E92?). Mrs. Lee's E92 was a nightmare. And her X1 isn't much better. My E46 was also pretty nice to wrench on. I wish they could just stick with a good thing and not "improve" it.

they are indeed very satisfying at every touch/interaction point. Shifting, accelerating, muted exhaust note...a fun car to drive for sure.

T77911S 08-15-2016 05:22 AM

friend at work that has one just drove mine.
he was very impressed with how good a shape it is in.
said mine is a lot tighter than his.

I need to do a road trip!

wish it had the rear spoiler.

T77911S 08-18-2016 06:05 AM

first annoying thing, the freaking door locks.
they auto lock which is ok but to get out of the car you have to pull the door handle TWICE or press the unlock button first.
to have it programmed to operate differently, like a lot of other things on the car, it has to go to the dealer or someone with a computer that can interface with it and change the settings.
dealer wants almost $250 to do it.

T77911S 08-22-2016 04:05 AM

first road trip.
we took our daughter to college.
I cant believe the gas mileage.
I was getting 23 around town, with the way I drive, but 30's on the highway. (about 33)

This might be a worthwhile purchase: https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E46-330i-M54_3.0L/Tools/Scan_Tools/ES2975699/

1990C4S 08-22-2016 06:13 AM

Thinking I might do the same.

The E46 is a good choice for a DD?

ckelly78z 08-22-2016 06:16 AM

My wife has a 2003 325 CI convertible. I want basically the same car in a hard top, and have been looking at 330 with the extra 50 HP over the 325s. Truly nice cars, but wouldn't get the NAV screen again.

Otter74 08-22-2016 02:05 PM

How's the automatic on these? Both in terms of performance and in terms of durability? These are probably the top car I am constantly tempted by, but automatic wagons are like 20x easier to find that manual wagons.
