A fool and his money are soon parted...

I know someone that paid almost $30k to get one of the first new Beetles back in '98.

I don't understand at all. They raise the suspension for a car that is clearly not fit for off road driving?

Who's the market for this thing?

VW would have much more cred if they built and sold a true off roader. They know what their doing - they've got vehicles that have won the Dakar.

Wouldn't it be the same audience that these things are targeted at?

The new giant jacked up Mini.

Car & Driver did a test of it. They attempted to take it down a gravel road and almost tore off the front fascia when encountering a small ditch...had to turn back! It's a half inch higher than a standard Beetle.

I'm with masraum. Same market as the "countryman" crowd.

Well, the Passat, Polo and Touran are available as "Cross".
Stupid looking wannabe offroader. Just as stupid as all SUVs and pickups in the city.

It doesn't even look raised. They should do a Baja.

I've seen a few of those around here.

On dealer showroom floors.

The latest ridiculosity from Mini is the Mini Cooper S Paceman. As far as I can tell it's a two-door chopped-top Countryman. So, a smaller version of the big Mini. WTF?

Obviously we aren't the intended audience for this sort of crap. I'm not sure who is, though.

Not I..we just bought Cindy a new appliance car. Boring as a loaf of white bread, a Camry. Hopefully years of no hassles transport. Model year closeout, less than $20K.
