Your cat will probably start drinking tons of water. A side effect of the condition and meds. The cream sounds a lot easier than pills, although by getting a stone mortar, we were able to turn the pills into powder and mix with wet food. You also might see a bit of a mood change until the meds get into the system and your kitty adjusts. In all, it’s manageable with meds and he/she can have a normal life for years to come. Like us humans, a little help is needed from time to time with medication..

I was in yesterday with another follow-up and blood draw after 4 months. Previously he was vomiting yellow/brown liquid every morning but that has since ceased. I was giving both cat and dog plenty of those "Little Jax" liver treats which was probably too much. Big mistake on my part.

Also a while back he switched from Purina regular blue bag to Blue Wilderness Rocky Mountain mixed with water and reduced feeding so he stays a little hungry. We've tried about ten different flavors of the canned wet food which is supposed to be better for the cat kidneys but it has high protein content which is a good thing for cats. Vet said he needs more water but actually less protein content now in order to keep liver/kidney function. The interesting thing is that he has started to eat the dog's Purina Savor dried food. I can't give him any low salt specialty foods while he gets into the other.

Vet said he's got a bit of normal tacky-cardia but thyroid levels are way down from last time on this blood draw from his neck. Going in for a urine draw next week to get a baseline.

$50/mo for the topical stuff is a bit much, so I'll be going for $15/mo. crushed pills and tuna.

The Hyperthyroid treatment is supposed to help bring down the heart-rate and keep that safe, but at the possible cost of reduced blood flow to the kidneys which will have to be monitored.

We too incorporated more wet in our cats diet due to the kidneys. Annie did have to be hydrated via saline solution from time to time but I think that was more extreme than normal. The vet allowed me to do that at home with a saline bag and needle. But again, I think we were an extreme case.

You might check on the on-line pet med sites for the cream. We order the kittens wet food on-line and I know you can get special wet/dry low protein food at your local PetSmart but will need a prescription from your vet to purchase. Even though it’s on the shelf, it’s RX only. Our Schnauzer required it for his GI issues.

Just way more info than you probably wanted to know...... but the more tools you have, the better to tackle the fix.

My girl TidBit passed this morning unexpectedly. She woke me up around 4am, crying, and vomiting, but stopped when I touched her. She was having a hard time breathing so I took her to the vet, and she passed within minutes of getting her there. She was fine yesterday, and I can't believe that she is gone. :(

I lost my cat of fifteen years late last year Byron, still breaks my heart to think about it. My condolences to you.

I can totally relate to that feeling and experience. Over the years lost Morgan, our big orange and white cuddle bug and Onyx, our feral rescue that was the most appreciative cat we have ever been owned by.

Nothing can adequately describe the gaping hole in your heart when they leave you that way. All we can do is cherish the fond memories we have and be comforted by the fact that we gave them the best and most comfortable life possible.

When we lost Morgan suddenly, I asked our vet what did I do wrong? Thinking it was some lack of care I failed to provide. She kindly explained to me that cats are funny like that. They show no outward signs of being in distress and if they do, it’s very subtle. Especially if there is more that one cat in the household. As if they want to show no signs of weakness in front of the other cats. I kinda can understand that, but it sure in the hell doesn’t make it any easier. Especially when we consider our pets to be part of the family.

Ok. I here this loud crashing sound and thought what the hell are the cats doing?! I am in the kitchen and all of a sudden Adam, I think cuz it was a blur, and I was laughing so hard, comes running through the kitchen with the Australian wind whipper stick attached to him via the string. Please help me to find new homes for these kittens. I am open to offers and will meet you at a 300 mile radius from St. Louis. If you are further than 300 miles, you would have to pay for air cargo.

So, besides the 3 kittens that are 17 weeks old and need new homes, Bella had 6 more kittens this afternoon. All is well. 6 Thai Burmese kittens. WooHoo!
