Building A Website
Somehow I have gotten corralled into building and maintaining a website for my neighborhood association.
My question is which of the "websites for dummies" services you'd recommend. The website will need to: - Show articles (blog style) with indexing and tags - Have different sections (park, safety, board meetings, committee work, etc) - Allow pdf documents to be downloaded by readers - Have a calendar - Enable readers to send emails to different people in the association - Enable people to subscribe for updates - Have banner advertisements - Have a gallery of photos - Be managed by a couple different people I have a couple days experience building a current website with Wix.com and it seems pretty straightforward. I know there also WordPress. Any others? Which is best for my needs? |
Wordpress.

Learn Ruby, Rails, Jquery and scsss, and stand up your own Apache webserver on an AWS box?.....
wix or wordpress. |
one.com

I second WordPress. Lots of very good free themes available the get you off and running right out the box.

Wordpress is a bit touchy about explicit images and whatnot. Depending on your neighborhood that might or might not be a problem. Just sayin'. :D

Squarespace. All in one - built in themes, hosting, drag and drop, the whole thing. I use Wordpress and it's tedious to say the least. You have to upload images, create gallery, then pages etc etc....
If I wasn't in so deep already I'd go Sqarespace in a heartbeat. There's some sort of discount if you mention NPR too. |
