F1: Thoughts on Spa

- Max: I like the kid, he's talented and fun to watch. But I think he's gonna get someone killed. Reminds me of Grosjean during his crazy year when he almost took Alonso's head off ! I don't think he's to blame for the first turn crashes (although his line was never going to work all that well), but his constant blocking moves at high speed or under braking are something else. I'm surprised he has never been called on it. Last race was similar, he's a good passer but he's not he most fair guy to overtake...
I can see kimi Punting him into the wall next time, he's had enough.

- Engines: This engine rule is a joke. So you "install" 3 engines and pay the price one time, and you can almost double your engine supply for the season? What a deal !! Either you get one engine per penalty-race or you drop the stupid limit altogether (my choice). Smart move by Hamilton's camp but doesn't sound fair to get 3 new engines for essentially one penalty. Lewis truly has luck on his side at the moment with yellows, Red flags, otherwise he's never have made it this far with the tire degradation...

- Honda: Yeah ! Last to 7th ? Looks promising for 2017 ! PS: how did ALO not get penalised for the pits wheel banging with Hulk? Usually the stewards get you if you sneeze funny...

- The Hulk: Feel bad for him, he deserved his first podium and got screwed by the red flags.

- Magnussen is a lucky boy ! And his dad won a couple hours later... They should go buy a lotto ticket !

I totally missed that Honda/McLaren did that. Other than Hamilton, that's the story of the race. Next season may well be a four-way brawl between Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren.

Gawd, I hope so. The processions of the last ten years or so have gotten extremely ponderous.

Spa was a good race, though. The first turn schamazzle certainly turned all strategies upside down, and then the red flag to fix the barrier just turned all the new stragegies upside down again!

I wish Louie would have been taken out, (harmlessly, don't want to see anyone hurt) but I don't always get what I want! SmileWavy

Creative rule reading has always been the key to domination in racing.

Agreed but this one is a joke. You start last one race and you can get 3 new engines and push the $%%# out of them for the rest of the season ! Especially funny for a Mercedes, because you know that even starting last they will finish in the top 6. I wish that engine rule would go away completely. It's F1, Honda and Renault would be up there with Mercedes by now if now for this fake money saving idea.

I heard they borrowed stewards from NASCAR.

max-off would have been siting in the pit lane for half the race if I were a steward.

"I stick the nose of my car inside the turn where there was absolutely no room, and they turned in on me!

What a deek.

astrochex 08-29-2016 10:19 AM

Maxie is the current goldenboy, he can do what he wants. The stewarding for the race was laughable with a complete neglect of track limits and letting Alonso race and making contact with Hulkenberg in the pits.

Danny Sullivan was one of this weekends stewards. I would be careful around Kimmi if I were Max.

I think Max's driving is a breath of fresh air. I am so tired of the stewards over-analyzing everything and not allowing these guys to really race each other. Who can forget Zanardi ping-ponging his way thru the field back in the CART glory days, leaving a trail of destruction behind. That was racing! The cars were tough and the guys really banged it up with each other. These F1 cars are too fragile and the stewards are over-regulating the action on the track. I'm sick and tired of it. The safety of the cars is better than ever. Let them get on with it and stop the whining!

For the first turn argie-bargie (sp?) i agree with you, what the hell, let's see some moves..
The problem I had was his defensive move at 300 kph + on Kimi, that was something that could have ended with 2 dead drivers... In fact I promise you it will end up with 2 cars in the wall next time he tries it -apparently all the other drivers have had it with those moves..

^ I agree. It's good fun to see a kid do well, but not when the kid moves on you under braking. If he were in a real sport, I think someone would have punched him out by now.

Let's see what Former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve has to say about precious little Max:
Quote:

“The issue is the FIA, because it looks like he’s got protection. They want him to be a star". ...................................

"Twenty years ago someone would have put him in a tree.”
JV on Max: Every race he is worse - PlanetF1 : PlanetF1

Pretty much sums it up.

Deschodt 08-31-2016 12:21 PM

I agree with JV. Problem is JV also said a lot of stupid things so he's not exactly listened to anymore ;-)
Open wheel contact at 300+ kph = someone goes flying.. Most likely the pursuer...
