there went the transformer

Here I sit in N Florida. Wind is picking up and very gusty. Been raining for hours. And the transformer down the road just went boom.

Still better than the thought off dealing with snow.

Call your local power company... they may know about it already, but it always helps to make sure.

Here, there's a toll free number to report outages (it's just an automated thing) and you can check back to see how they're progressing.

Don't open your fridge. These are the times that try men's souls, huh?

Turn off the breaker until power is restored for a few minutes.

Understood, but call 'em anyway... let 'em know for sure yours is out. You may be surprised... it could help. There may be crews out driving around nearby and they could be dispatched to that transformer within the hour.

When we call back to check, the recording tells how many customers are without power and gives an estimate of when ours will be restored.

Fla hurricanes are just natures way of helping scheister contractors stay in business.

Stay safe and watch out for alligators floating through your living room!
