My Son and I have had a saying for years when we are involved in some sort of hard work we say 'still beats digging a ditch'. This summer his friends dad hired the boys to do some work at their deer lease. He called me up during a lunch break to say 'Dad, guess what's worse then digging ditches? NOTHING! That's what I've been doing for 5 hours!'

Last day of summer vacation I had my kids help me trim all the Oleanders from the fence line. We filled 6 garbage cans and 25 large leaf bags. My daughter said 'why are we doing this the last day of summer vacation?'

Just to make sure you understand why your in school kid...

For simpletons anything looks complicated.

Straight over your head, tabs, out to the parking lot and smack dab into the windshield of your own car.

The one you sent your caddy, "Danny" to wash and park for you.

Begin crafting an ad for a new HR person. They seem to be about $0.10/dozen.

We are looking for some phone/web sales folks and I'm shocked at what makes it to an interview. My manger sits at his desk laughing at some of the resumes, and then it's amazing once guys get in how clueless they can be.

Dealing with retail, I'm losing faith in society.

I have been looking for an inside sales / customer service representative for a few weeks now. I have poured through hundreds of 'screened' resumes. When I say 'screened', these are the ones that our HR department has weeded out. I've seen some they didn't weed out and I truly cannot believe the employee pool in our country! Here is an example of the statement one individual used in the objective section of the resume:

I did not change a word of this. The person had a last name that did not suggest that English was a second langue. They indicated that they held other jobs that would indicate a 4th grade mastery of English or so I would hope. The resume went on with sporadic offerings of lucidity which suggested that they could cut and paste from another document.

I won't post all the examples of ridiculousness. There is a certain level of the population that are unemployable. I am beside myself. I am wasting so much time pouring through countless resumes of people who are just plain scary!

What to do?

Putz.

I made it a policy to re-read/proof read everything I write, (including all of these posts). I don't like looking like an uneducated fool from having a lack of vocabulary, and puncuation.

So many people who are looking for a good job, are completely clueless on what employers want to see from them.

Back during the good ol days of one of the oil booms in the 1980s the oil industry was hiring almost anyone with a pulse. We put an ad in the local paper. This was before the internet existed and we were getting no responses. Finally we received a few phone calls that were all "Well I am presently incarcerated, but I will be getting out soon....

Then the oil industry collapsed and we had people beating on the door for any job we would have.

Also, "poured" should be "pored".

I HATE our HR dept. They've gone full derp on affirmative action and can't tell the difference between a C+ in Creative Underwater Basketweaving and C++. They hold resumes hostage, dribbling them out only after we've rejected all of the candidates they've sent us (and always requiring extensive documentation to explain why the tri-gendered cross-dressed blue Martian-American with a degree in Applied Sophistry isn't qualified to write code in C++).

Oh, and they appear to work about 20 hours a week. Apparently shuffling resumes is like, really hard. And stuff.

This is one of the main reasons I'm a Democrat. There's simply a substantial portion of our citizens who do not have the ability to earn enough to live above the poverty line. I don't mind paying more in taxes to keep these people fed, clothed, and housed so they don't have to rob me.

With that said, every other email or online post I write has a grammatical error or missing word(s)

sammyg2 08-30-2016 11:17 AM

We should raise the minimum wage again, that'll help!

Let's just say that .... I was raised differently. You wanna pay more taxes? Go ahead, just leave my money alone.
