Facebook is pushing "secure" messaging now. Apparently the messages are encrypted both ways. You really have to ask why?

I'd bet the Gumbits aren't happy about that.

Good. Fk Facebook. I've never used it and won't. I like what Space-X is doing for aerospace (ditto Virgin Galactic and Scaled Composites) and I'm not a Tesla hater per se but this is the reality of pushing the edge of technology - it's risky and dangerous.

If Facebook (and Google) disappeared tomorrow I'm not convinced the world would be any worse off for it. In fact I'm pretty certain the world would be much BETTER off for it.

They will tailor the article to appeal to your specific predilections. The wording, the phrasing and the salient points all in order to shape your individual perceptions.

I write a piece using those same techniques to make an impact on and to influence peoples perceptions. When I get involved in a discussion with someone I begin to tailor the response based upon your predilections. Many of which are very subtle and nuanced.

The Big Data interests are more than just heavy handed as they lack the finesse. Or just the how to knowledge.

That would not be the bad thing.
The bad thing is that other people might appear on the photos, people maybe not wanting their photo on the internet. Not today, or not in the future. And now they have no way of getting out of it, not today, not in the future.

And you maybe don't post stupid things.
The kids today don't realize how the posts will catch them later on, because everyone tells them that FB/Snapchat/... is such a great thing.
There is no "But think before you post", not from most of the parents, not from society.

Sometimes it's a good thing - for me. I'm a landlord and occasionally in the past I've had to do some minor detective work to track people down. Facebook is very helpful.

facebook, tesla....these are not things that have improved the world today. they take gov't money and give terrorists a forum for spreading their hate. perhaps the best part is the satellite was to provide facebook access to the middle east.

karma is a *****.
i'd probably put rape, and war above facebook and tesla, but you know ... whos counting?

Funny, people helming two consumer products you can choose not to use... are 'humanity's biggest enemies?'

Hyperbole much?

Well as for FB, some (younger) think FB is the internet.
And in Sweden the biggest phone company has released a plan which does not reduce the GB when using 5 or 6 certain social media sites, of which 4 belongs to FB.
This will draw all the younger people, companies and media to that network and we all KNOW they are manipulating the way articles and news are shown.

They first have to build a big enough data base (over lots of time) and then sift through the information to see universal patterns develop and then start applying those to the individual. In the application to the individual a lot of nuance is needed. Shadings of gray as it were.

Then we come to the interpretation and perceptions of the idiots who sit behind desks that collect the information have. Having the data is one thing but using it is quite another.

So it comes down to art more than science as numbers lose something in the translation that rings hollow. Human beings first and foremost are emotional creatures where so many variables come into play.

Guess what if I can explain the mechanism to you, I know how it works and can apply those principles, dontcha think?
I felt very manipulated while using face book. I eventually decided it wasn't worth it anymore, and deleted a few years ago.
