Got accepted into a really big show

There is a group called NSS, National Sculpture Society based on the East Coast, they are having a sculpture show in San Diego for 2017 and I entered it. First big thing I have tried, mostly small stuff around here. I got my acceptance letter the other day. It will start with a reception January 7 in The Sparks Gallery located on Sixth St in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego. I haven't been there but it looks like a big spot. The biggest thing to happen to me in my sculpture life. It will run for about two months. This is the Polar Bear I entered, about 80 lbs of Italian Marble.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1472831627.jpg

Great news!!! Good luck with this.

ossiblue 09-02-2016 08:09 AM

Congratulations, Dean. Best of luck and enjoy the experience.

pwd72s 09-02-2016 08:20 AM

Well done! :)

tevake 09-02-2016 08:25 AM

Your acceptance is well deserved Dean. You have leapt to a high levels in your sculpting and folks will enjoy your piece.

Hope you don't mind a hijack. Last week we did a show of my moms work, at the care home where she is staying now.

She got started in sculpting in her mid sixties and immediately started producing good pieces right away. Kind of blew our minds at the time to see her work.

The show at the care home was a resounding success. The residents were so interested and antimated by the seeing the pieces.

I only have some snaps I took at the show and while preparing.

Congratulations, Dean! That polar bear has "spoken" to me since you first showed us the piece in process.

KFC911 09-02-2016 09:33 AM

Congrats Dean! I don't always comment on your artistic threads, but I've always been impressed with your talent...well done.

BeyGon 09-02-2016 11:12 AM

tevake, those are cool, I have a really tough time with faces. I know people that have classes in clay and would teach me but I must be too lazy to go.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments.

speeder 09-02-2016 11:14 AM

I've said it here before, that's really good work. Congratulations.

wildthing 09-02-2016 12:59 PM

Congratulations.

Although I must say, transporting that would be a bear! Hehe

Brian in VA 09-02-2016 01:05 PM

Your early work was very, very good but you are really improving!
That bear is beautiful!

dad911 09-02-2016 01:45 PM

Very Cool. Congrats.

BeyGon 09-02-2016 07:43 PM

Again, thank you all for your comments and you can see it "live" in San Diego, The Sparks Gallery, 560 sixth st, The Gaslamp Quarter. A ways away, the Reception open to the public is the evening of 7 January from 6 to 9 and the show runs for two months. I already got a hotel a couple blocks away so I can have a wine or two and not drive home.

creaturecat 09-02-2016 08:39 PM

That's what started this, I couldn't even spell art before that trip, and that motorcycle museum was great.

sc_rufctr 09-02-2016 09:29 PM

Well done Mr Dean. Just don't talk politics when you're there ;)

Noah930 09-02-2016 10:22 PM

LOL..but if you do, make sure you've had a few glasses of wine first :)

livi 09-03-2016 09:53 AM

Good for you! You really deserve that spot. Your work is excellent and that bear would be perfect by my garden pond in winter.

island911 09-03-2016 10:50 AM

What? A Polar Bear walking on ICE!?

Well now that's not very politically correct at all. :D

Didn't you get the memo that says that the ice caps all melted in 2012 and Polar Bears have been swimming about ever since? ;)

Seriously, tho, nice work; obviously.

billybek 09-03-2016 03:42 PM

When I saw this thread I thought immediately of this!
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7wefT_t2lHU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Glad you didn't have to die to get "In the Gallery". Congrats!

yetibone 09-03-2016 04:01 PM

Your sculpture work is fantastic, as always Dean. You truly deserve a spot at the show, and the accolades from everyone that has seen your works. Very nice stuff.

All the best.

nvr2mny 09-03-2016 05:59 PM
