At the range yesterday, shooting next to a USMC 2nd LT
I had run my target out during a cease fire when a new shooter rushed to the table next to me and one of the RO's said there would be a delay while he ran a target out and I said okay with me. The youngster ran to the 200 YD line and back and wasn't even breathing hard! So we shot some rounds and he was shooting some really old bolt action rifle and seemed more interested in my muzzle loader? Anyways during the next cease fire he sat down and was telling me he had just got stationed at MCAS Miramar a month or so earlier and it was his first time in CA. So I said "what do you do" and he said he was a maintenance officer on some jets and had just gotten through all his training. I found out his dad was stationed in San Diego during the same time I has on active duty but he said his had died a few years ago. Then his cell phone rang and all I heard was "Yes Sir, Yes Sir, Yes Sir"! So he started packing and I said was that the boss and he said no the base CO and it seems several of "his" young Marines had gotten in trouble Thursday night and were getting released from the drunk tank and the Base Commander wanted him to pick them up, read them the riot act, find out who got what, ETC and then report to him! I asked him where his SGTs were and he said he gave them the weekend off so I told him he was a good man for that and away he went!
Boy that sure brought back some memories........
