Refrigerator features...

So, they can't make a compressor that lasts more than 5 years, but they can put a huge touch screen on it.

This is great, since I've had so much difficulty in the past operating my fridge

Steve Carlton 09-05-2016 06:56 AM

No worries! The touch screen is only good for 3 years.

FANTASTIC!!!!! If one is posting on PPOT, and needs to leave the computer to get a snack, they can use the fridge to check and see if any updates occurred between walking from the computer to the fridge. This real time updating could be the advantage needed to help someone finally "win" a PPOT argument!

You have to turn the fridge sideways to watch movies?

id10t 09-05-2016 07:29 AM

Considering how frequently my kids open the fridge and stare this could be a big saver

No, we were dishwasher shopping last night. I don't know if that's better or worse.

The Miele brand has a refer that connects to the Internet and tells mission control if any functions are going on the fritz. They will order the part and contact you before you even know what's wrong. I don't think I want such a feature in my appliances. Talk about big brother.

Geez man, I'm still a little PO'd that I got one with an automatic ice maker /dispenser. (POS that takes up far too much freezer space. But at least it stopped working a couple years in. )

It also has three cameras to display what is inside.
You can tag foods and it is supposed to recognize them and tell when they expire.

Its an option. Just don't turn it on. We love our Miele fridge.

Dishwashers are another appliance that doesn't last anymore.

Just bought a new fridge. Mine developed a slow leak after 8 years of ownership. Shopping here for a fridge/freezer ice/water thru the door replacement they started at $1800. Same fridge in North Dakota was $789.

The factory repair guy who I called gave me this advise for buying new appliance's "Buy the cheapest one you can with the least amount of features. The more junk they add to them, the more that can go wrong and it does."

Gogar 09-05-2016 11:37 AM

I too am really excited that I can look inside the fridge from my cell phone while I'm on the couch.

Makes the $4000 fridge seem totally worth it.

My furnace guy said the same thing. Told me to avoid the high efficiency models until I was dragged screaming and shouting into the future, because it's all the crap that makes it highly efficient that's gonna break.

I dunno...

Had a $50 fridge in college...I knew what was in it all the time, from anywhere, without even looking :)
