Knee/Bursitis Treatment.

I did a search online and haven't found any good information on how to treat this.

You might remember I was hit head on by another (asshat) cyclist that had drifted into me on a mixed use pathway. His handlebars had hit my knee cap directly on top and had driven it down. Took a couple of weeks for me to be able to walk normally and really didn't hold me back too much this summer. (The accident did certainly wake up some old inguinal hernia repairs and that hasn't been good since...)

Fast forward a couple of months and all of a sudden the knee swells up and it looks like the knee cap isn't tracking. Went to the doc and was told it was bursitis and there wasn't anything that would work to treat it except time.

Going out to pickup some Arinicare to see if that helps, but was wondering if the braintrust had any other ideas.

Thanks!

Ice, anti inflammatories and time. Ice pack 10-15 minutes on, 45-60 off while you are awake.

What Tobra says. ^^^

Lay off that knee for four days straight, don't use it on stairs for a month. It will come back fine, and you can then build up to full activity again. If you don't lay off of it, it will hang on interminably.

I am no doctor, but I know this to be true.

Thanks for the info, gentlemen.

If I have to rest the knee then I am screwed!
My wife is at a conference in Spain and I am single parenting right now. Plus the border collie demands to be walked!

I have an Iceman cold therapy machine for the knee and have been using that but will start doing some anti inflammatory (Alleve a good choice?) drugs tomorrow. I wish beer was an anti inflammatory!

It was freaky the way the knee cap was so far out of position....

Alleve, take two twice a day, ibuprofen, 800 mg 3 times. Take them with food, drink plenty of water.

Holy crap!
Went to my massage therapist today...
I can't believe I pay someone to hurt me that much!

Feel much better now but it is usually two days before I really feel much better....

Been icing the knee on a regular basis but admittedly haven't been doing the anti inflammatorys.

Ice is not going to bother your stomach or kidneys. If I had to pick topical ice or oral NSAIDs for a patient, I would pick ice. Just do it frequently.
