John Prine
watching The Winding Stream on Netflix about the Carter Family over the weekend and right at the beginning is John Prine doing Bear Creek Blues
Well, damn! Like JJ Cale and a bunch of others, I've always know about him but never stopped to explore more. Like JJ Cale, this John Prine is blowin my mind with awesomeness Reminds me a lot of Townes Van Zandt |

Prine is pretty amazing. One of my wife's favorite songs is Bonnie Raite singing Prine's "Angel From Montgomery."

Sam Stone...
John Prine was a staple in my high school days. Dear Abby, Dear Abby, you won't believe this...

Great songwriter, love all his stuff. Please Don't Bury Me is one of my favorites.
Please don't bury me Down in that cold cold ground No, I'd druther have "em" cut me up And pass me all around Throw my brain in a hurricane And the blind can have my eyes And the deaf can take both of my ears If they don't mind the size Give my stomach to Milwaukee If they run out of beer Put my socks in a cedar box Just get "em" out of here Venus de Milo can have my arms Look out! I've got your nose Sell my heart to the junkman And give my love to Rose

The most amazing thing to me is how he wrote stuff like "Sam Stone" or "Hello In There" or "Angel From Montgomery" as a very young man.
What takes place in a young man's life to be able to channel stories like that?

Thank you.
My son is a Cash fan but I am a bit behind. Thanks for bringing up Prine, btw: I went through my old cassette tapes and CDs and found some interesting stuff.

I used to love signers until I discovered songwriters.
Tis freekin amazing ability to master a song with verses all set with proper annotations and rhymes. All in usually 3 minutes ! A singer-songwriter once explained to me- If you I can guess the rhyme B4 it is said it is cheeep 6th-grade dribble. Listen to Prine , Christofferson , Hoyt Axton and others for real genius in word placement and selection. I guess that is one reason i HATE so called modern country , it sucks with lack of ability .
