Or "McGyvering" if you will. The problem, passenger door on my Hot Rod would fly open over bumps or in strong winds or whenever it took a notion. So off to the hardware store for a sliding bolt latch, which mostly cured it. With the clothespin
wedge it fixed for good. And my driver side window wouldn't stay "UP'. so found a fix for that too.

All this because we're preparing to head off to Maine next week, and there are lots of bumpy roads down there. So at least now my wife's door wont fly open, she's less likely to be ejected. I hate it when that happens!!

A latch and sheet metal screws will also work. Note the small hole in the lower portion of the door and hardware store latch.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1473344656.jpg

(You should rig up a lanyard for the clothes pin so you don't lose it somewhere in Rhode Island!)

Reminds me of a room mate's Model A he'd cobbled together from pieces & parts. Got the radiator out of a field & scavenged other parts from different places. One of his most interesting mods was the headlight switch. It was one of those half/half household light switch panels that had a switch to flip on the top & a plug in receptical under that covered by a regular, ivory colored plastic cover. There was an electrical wire that came out from under the car's instrument panel & plugged into the outlet. To turn on the headlights, he flipped the light switch. To change from low beam to high beam, he pulled the plug out, flipped over 180 degrees and plugged it back in. It was pretty cool.

Yes, I'm working on just such a thing. Also you're right , I'm heading "down" to Maine so unlikely to lose it in RI. More likely NB. Good catch! eh

careful now, you're getting into rat rod territory. new original style latches are only $25... changed them out on my 29 and they work fine. the hard part was getting 86 yr old rusted seized screws with stripped heads out

You're right. These are new bear claws, but the big chevy bodies "flex a bit" so the claws, on my car at least, occasionally pop open. So had to resort to McGyver.

I was thinking of installing the suicide door safety bolts but, man it's a big job and I find it easier the easy way. This will have to do for now.

my friend has these on his 35. damn safe but in the way for me to install windows. I'll have to modify them to open from the outside also.

Just watched the Red Green power window winder. Great idea, makes my elastic band solution look not so smart.
