Baby Copperheads look a lot like the big ones.

My eye sight isn't that great, but when it comes to copper heads, I tend to either go by a really fat body, if that is all I see in leaves/rocks or lack of round eyes if I see the head.

Pretty sure that is a garter snake.

Geez...Now I feel bad  .......Not really, I will tend to error on the side of caution.

Snakes, BEWARE...Stay off my front patio ;)

About the only snake I can identify is a black snack. And it better be 100% black.

My dad only knows two types of snakes...the ones he killed, and the ones he tried to :(. Totally irrational...

All the rattlers and cottonmouths have been gone from this region for several decades...I walk by watersnakes all the time, and hardly give them a second glance even though I can't see their mouth/head (only way to distinguish the CMs)...

Most snakes will scoot away...not copperheads...relying on their camo, they just lay there until you step on 'em....they die :)

My dad was the same. About once a week in the summer, we would make the rounds of the places you would always find them...me with a shotgun and him with a hoe. We would usually kill several...but, there were always more then next time. If we could get them out in the open, we used a hoe and cut off their head with a single wack, but if they were under a rock ledge and could get away...bang. I got to shoot them. Big excitement for a kid in the backwoods.

Yes, definitely an eastern ratsnake. Common in GA. A big one too. You can tell by the head and the markings near the head. Not a viper. They are often mistaken for copperheads. I would run from that in the wild, but the luxury of examining a photograph is helpful to identify..

Well I'm glad to hear this. Found another smaller one in my front yard a few weeks ago.
Thanks for the proper ID!

Live and let live...

Unless it's a copperhead...

Live and let die :)
