I saw a little of it...
I'm a huge SRV fan, have most of his CD's and a couple of his DVD's... Don't know if there are multiple episode but the few minutes I watched featured Johnny Winter. They said Johnny was the first Texas blues player to get a big record contract and opened the door for the rest of the Texas blues bands (SRV, ZZ top, etc.) FWIW I am also a huge Johnny Winter fan and think he is highly underrated. Just IMHO.

Love him. Have all the DVD performances. Live at the Mocambo rules and there's a guy in the audience with a Ramones shirt that always gives me a chuckle
Saw SRV live on 7/12/89 with Johnny winter opening. Glad I went to the gig. Just wish I could remember it in more detail as I was standing in the front row a few inches from Stevie's boots. There were not many people in attendance as I recall. 20 years went by of not really listening for many reasons. The past few years I can't get enough. That version of little wing he did on the sky is crying is really something else

The piece tells of the conflict between young Stevie and his brother Jimmy.
Lots of info I never knew...tons of interviews with those who knew the boys. Starts out with old original black blues greats. . My favorite Jimmy Vaughn piece!!! .

Wonder if it's same as that rise of a Texas blues man documentary that's out there ? I haven't seen it but sounds similar
I'm talking about this https://www.amazon.com/Vaughan-Stevie-Ray-Bluesman-1954-1983/dp/B00KYYDDFQ

Another note from the piece:
Just prior to his '82 Montreux appearance, where he and his band got booed, Mick Jagger became interested in supporting SRV & Double Trouble. A private audition in an auditorium with all of the Stones was arranged, Jagger liked it but thought there would be too little market. . It also tells how SRV & Albert King became good friends. This is a documentary that I've never seen before.

The in studio performance recorded for public television of SRV and Albert King is really great. Get the DVD if you can. Great sound and great playing. One of my favorites to watch

![]() I was in college when I heard about this hot shot blues guy from Texas on David Bowie's album....'bought every SRV album/cd the Tuesday they hit the record stores for years. Big Johnny Winter fan since Live...loudest show I've ever been to...ears were ringing for two days. Tommy Shannon was the common link as he played bass for JW back when. I've read a bunch of Shannon's tales....he and Stevie visited the devil and survived....Stevie's last cd with his brother was a new beginning though....RIP. |
