I miss the days of Flying Lizard Porsche!

sand_man 09-22-2016 05:33 PM

BTW, Magnuson is still racing for 'vette and Bergmeister is still in a Porsche.

One of my all-time favorite race finishes.

Oh, and I miss Speed.

sand_man 09-22-2016 05:48 PM

I remember watching that race unfold. Holy moly, I was making up my own curse words!

So the Corvette passed him with a pretty nifty cheat a few miles back from finish and the judges said let the Porsche ahead again?

I think that is what I am seeing?

Corvette (Magnusson) is faster but understeers a lot when running close to Porsche (Bergmeister).

Magnusson uses pit exit to cut a corner to pass Bergmeister. Magnusson is ordered to give back the position. On the final corner, Magnusson attempts a mild "pit maneuver" on Bergmeister, loosening his back end and allowing him by. As Magnusson passes, Bergmeister drives Magnusson into the wall. I imagine that Bergmeister is turning the wheel hard left, Magnusson is turning his wheel hard right, and Bergmeister straightens a brakes, sending Magnusson into the opposite wall and letting Bergmeister pass the line while Magnusson wrecks.

Reminds me a lot of one of my favorite finishes, Bergmeister vs Melo last lap Sebring 2007:

Suspect they both gave hand signals to the other that the other was "number one" in that change of positions.:D

The pit maneuver was mildly aggressive. The driving of the opponent into the wall was very aggressive.

Bergmeister was still granted the win?

Both were very experienced drivers. The car control part is one thing, the tactics are just a treat to watch.

Thanks for your explanation.

awesome.
the vette was faster but got what he deserved due to the bump in the turn.

Too intense, like the drive into work.

I remember this incident. I was especially incensed because it usually ends with the Porsche being pushed off the track.

Afterwards I went to the web site of the Corvette team.

It had all these links and slogans referring to 'safe driving' and driver education.

I created a login and posted 'Here's a safe driving tip. Don't hit other cars!"

There's a difference between being funny and being an untreated sewer spreader.

Porsche Jörg Bergmeister - Porsche AG

rattlsnak 09-23-2016 06:26 PM

I posted that on here a few years ago and still watch it occasionally. Still puts me on the edge of my seat!

I'd like to find some footage from the last year in the American lemans series epic underdog P2 Penske spyder vs Goliath P1 Audi Lemans winning prototype battles

I was there that night. It was my first IMSA event. I was working the leads of turn 8 (entrance, driver's right). Great racing that day. A year later, the Vette guys were still mad. they had a plastic lizard hanging on their pit box.

Her is an oldie but a goodie

My son and I were at the 2013 12-hours of Sebring when the big Audi R18 e-tron Quattro prototypes were running! WOW! It was sort of a first/last appearance for them. They were blisteringly fast and dead quiet. They just sort of hovered around the track, working effortlessly through traffic!!! CRAZY! Like watching an alien spacecraft! 2013 was also the final year of ALMS.
