lost lawn mower key

So... the lawn mower key is lost.

Are they generic enough that there is hope of a cheap/easy replacement, or should I start looking at how to hotwire it or rewire it to have a run switch and a starter button?

Take it apart and remove the tumblers. Then anything will work.

Oh Haha 10-01-2016 07:11 AM

What brand?

My JD has a unique key but my Yardman push mower and my FIL's Scag use what looks like the same generic key.

id10t 10-01-2016 07:16 AM

It is a 5-6 year old Craftsman

Baz 10-01-2016 07:26 AM

All mower keys are brand generic......any craftsman key should work....

Man, I hate when rich people brag about their stuff

My mower doesn't even have an engine.

You can get a replacement at any Home Depot, Lowes or Mower shop. All the same.

My mower is a 30 HP diesel with a front end loader and 72" mower.

Yes, most department store riding mowers all share the same universal key, and can bought many places.

My mower magically appears when I'm at work, and mows my lawn. All I have to do is write a check quarterly. I like my mower.

You have a mower? You lucky b*stard. i have a pair of shears.

cashflyer 10-01-2016 12:55 PM

Oh, there it is... you guys with your ropes and your fancy shears.

The missus and I have to use a stick to beat the grass into submission.

When I was young, we would have counted ourselves lucky to even have grass. Instead it was just dirt, sharp rocks, and fragments of broken glass. And we would get a proper hiding from father if I didn't keep it all very neat.

Sophisticated bastard. Where I come from we can't even afford the stick. We just use 10,000 sheep to mow the lawns.

Oh Haha 10-01-2016 04:10 PM

Wow, this went sideways funny fast!

Ya know, ol' Bill lives down under so he actually MAY have sheep do his mowing. I think he's exaggerating the count, though. Sheesh, everyone has to brag and be all cool.

And think of the money he saves on girlfriends !

I can't compete with that...

Bill Douglas 10-01-2016 04:57 PM

Lol

GWN7 10-01-2016 05:08 PM

Most plastic keys just stop the engine from grounding out. They spread apart two contacts. A popsicle stick might work.

10,000 GF's wow, I'm impressed. :)

Scott Douglas 10-01-2016 05:43 PM

Oh man, am I ever sorry I brought up the rope.

Next time, I'll just mind my own business.

Bill Douglas 10-01-2016 06:15 PM

Yeah, your fault Douglas. AND all these guys making fun of my girlfriends (just jealous).
