Mrm you have hit the nail on the head. I'm ready to let go. I've been holding the tiger by the tail for 17 years now. I am ready to hand some responsibility over .
First week, my initial impression, is that I am getting a lot more done, my stress level is going down, and she is happier than I have seen her in a long time .
We rode to work together for the first time ever yesterday.
We are going to ride this for 6 months and see where we are at .

My partners wife runs Admin for our company. They are together pretty much every waking moment. When they do appointments to other companies by car, she always drives so he can work in the car.

It works great for them and the company but, as mentioned before in the thread, everyone has different temperaments...I hope it is working out!

Edit: Too slow! Glad to hear you folks are making it work.

HAHA!

PS does this mean she sees your Snap On truck tab now?

That, could be an issue.

Talking

She knows about that already. I'm 2 payments away from paying off a monthly mortgage sized loan with Snap On Credit. I'm going to take a break from big purchases for a bit . It is the Porsche , dirt bike and truck parts funds , that I have to hide.

Cool

I have to check the employee handbook, but I believe that Birkenstocks are the approved footwear for office personnel at Fast Freddys .
She's not a dude though.
I hope this is all in good fun Baz, I am just messin on my end. You are one of the coolest cats here, I would never purposely insult you .

It's all good, Fred. I never took it any other way.

Spoon class for wife

As said in my thread above a lot of it depends on you relationship with your wife.

For me just running a house together can be difficult... for instance she puts stuff away, doesn't tell me where she put it, then gets miffed when I can't read her mind and have to ask for the location... or I have a bachelor's level cleanliness and she has a mother's level of cleanliness.

Things like that would prevent me from ever wanting to go into business with my wife.

YMMV

The secret to Fred's impending success is that he won't be working with his wife. He will be dividing tasks with her in the shop. She does the front office work and is in charge out there while Fred does what he does best in the shop and back office. He's the CEO, she's the COO. They get to flip a coin for who gets to be chief bottle washer.

Just let her be the Service Tech and order parts, you do the Wrenching. Hire someone else to clean.

Just remember that unless you've made a prior agreement, you don't want to yell, "Hey, how about another coffee, sweetheart?" from the shop or things could go South really fast.

Just kidding... it sounds like y'all have things running smoothly and I'm sure your profits have begun to go up appreciably.

Don't forget to give her a raise every other year.

In 2010 I laid off my last Employee. In 2011 I was about to close my company down, close the office and go find a job doing something else.

Through all of this I was a 1 man company and used my wife and my oldest son to help me.

Up to this point I kept my wife away from the company because, like OP I can be a bit of a (*edit) butthole (stupid curse filters) on the job. My work is very stressful and thankless and it can get to you. (Land Surveyor)

I would say it all depends on your wife. My wife understood and to be honest she was a calming factor for me, a ying and yang type of thing.

We worked really well together, she is a bright girl and was a fast learner and conscientious. She worked out perfect.

I just remembered a great fun memory.

We were working about 20 miles away from the office, we ended up getting rained on and drenched finishing a job. On the way back she asked if I could stop for a potty break, I stopped at a lunch place and ordered a sandwich to share while she used the rest room.

We had lunch and started heading to the office... without going into details we ended up parked in the driveway of a vacant home (I knew from working on it) that was remote in the back seat of the SUV having a bit of fun. That was after she admitted to me she removed some under garments in the bathroom.

Aside from that fun, once we adjusted to each other in the work place, we got along great.

Now she works in my office 2 days a week (We have 1 kid in school still) handling all the receivables. She is a pit bull with the clients making sure we get paid.

I suspect your wife will be a great asset to your business leaving you to worry about the actual work and leaving all the paperwork and office duties to her.

As long as you get along good and are mature, I think it will work to your advantage.

I will add this, my wife seeing first hand the BS I have to endure, it was huge in helping our relationship she understood why I was so stressed out all the time and was really helpful working to help me decompress at the end of the day.

This. She always joked that she thought she would be bored here. I actually keep her pretty busy. She is not here right now, I have had 8 people walk in, 2 deliveries, and missed 6 phone calls in the last 2 hours. When it is busy , it is an absolute mad house. She said she has no idea how I have kept it going for this long by myself.
Then , all the goofy people you have to deal with. Most people are great, but lets face it, there are people out there who are challenging to work with .
She has heard me belly ache about this one guy I have been dealing with for 20 years. She just met him yesterday, and said she wanted to go out back and kick the tire pile after a 20 minute conversation with him .
I think she now appreciates how hard I have been working all these years
