I wonder if any of the car owners considered a lawsuit.

One could potentially sue the newsidiot, his employer (for lack of supervision/training), and the venue (for lack of security).

Even if the vehicle damage was minimal, there is "pain and suffering" (i.e. anguish) and the loss of value of the vehicle because it was seen on TV being damaged/abused.
