It is all very interesting, for sure. But for me and my life, it's all make-believe.

I can't even imagine how somebody would go about managing his life to end up knowing anything about any of it.

Amazing to me. Really amazing.

+ eleventy million...at least :)

My cousin married into that type of money...she's a great girl, and her hubby is from a down-to-earth family.
How? Miami (So. FL) commercial real estate...
Private GS, own a private island in the Bahamas, etc.

I can NOT relate...if my mom and aunt hadn't told me about their wealth, then I'd never had a clue...good people they are.

The G650 was right at 100 million delivered, CAD. Remeber listed prices don't include completions, plus import etc etc etc. Doc on the 650 is closer to 6 k and hour. We charter (if we did, the owners don't wish to defer the cost) at close to ten ' and hour. A Challenger goes for 6k an hour.
The 550 they owned for three years sold for 40 million less than purchase, so that depreciation figure is an actual not an estimate. Hangarage is 222000 for the year, insurance is about the same, they have 6 full time staff members whose salaries are throughput to them, the cheapest of which is approx 125K CAD annual.
The burns you are right, I was thinking of the london leg we did on the 737, the average is right around 35 to 40 per leg.
Chartering is an effective way to offset the cost of ownership, but unless you are running under your own flight and mtce department, in no way will you ever end up in he black. Our average aircraft does 100 owner hours a year, and if charter available, maybe 400 total.
The 650 in this case is owned personally buy a couple not by a company, so depreciation is not the return it would be for a company.
Appreciating aircraft was a pre 2008 phenomena, and is extraordinarily rare in today's market.
And yes, the best business aircraft to buy is definitely a used one.
The 100 owner hours they fly a year run them a couple million bucks annually in all up costs.
I'd still rent no matter how much I flew.
