Shopping for a tablet computer. Is iPad still the sheet?

My iPad 2 is virtually unusable. So slow to recognize my typing plus it requires rebooting more often now. Not sure of the cause. Anyway, I want to replace it but am not sure which way to go - Samsung, iPad or Kindle Fire. Any other choices? Which one is best for surfing, downloading/watching movies, email, FaceTime or Skype, Kindle app, YouTube and Pelican? My budget is $300. What do you recommend?

Only released 2 weeks ago, the new Kindle Fire HD 8 sees a price drop, faster processor, more battery life, etc. Only $89.99 ....... Great for Amazon Prime members. Can be rooted to get Android Apps. Does a lot for the price. Got mine yesterday:

Computer? ..or tablet? The two are not quite the same yet.

If computer, get a Surface Pro
If tablet, get an iPad.

There was a deal on Amazon yesterday for a Lenovo Yoga, dont remember the model but 128 Gb 4 MB 11.something" touchscreen for $279. Sold out quick.

Check woot.com.

I have two iPads in the house already, wouldnt spend the coin on another. Get a Surface.

My wife loves her iPad and it is in her hands all the time. They are great little things as long as you don't want to do something wild and exotic like use a USB thumb drive to read a PDF file. There are adapters that let you plug a USB drive into the lightning port, but it will only see a .jpg file or a movie. PDF files are not seen.

There are some complicated work arounds but nothing is as simple as it should be.

I prefer the Samsung/Android OS. You are already set using IOS. I suggest you stay with what you are using, or you'll be driven mad with the way Android operates.

You might look for a used iPad

I work with both Android and iPad... the iPad cost more, is no more reliable, and I don't find them any easier to work with... personalty I don't see the attraction.

I also have a Amazon Fire and love it.

YMMV

be careful here. you can only say 'tablet' so many times before your man card gets revoked.

and god help you if you cross a phone with one....

Ipad is way better than the alternatives...

Been there, done that...

Spend the extra $150.

I used an iPhone 4S while using a Samsung tablet and the iPhone drove me nuts. Moved to Galaxy S4 phone. So I understand. But the OP uses and like his iPad. And I agree, if the specs are the same, the Android tablet will cost a lot less.

My sister bought my mother a Fire. She likes it, but it would have been better to get her a standard Android tablet.

Thats funny

I am very happy with the ~$50 amazon tablet. Only grip is battery life but its not bad. Maybe I dont know what I'm missing, but for basic surfing apps it works.

Try a "factory reset".. I did that on mine and is like a brand new tablet! Really solved all issues. I just saved myself $$$

We supply both Ipads and Surface to pilots for maps, so I get to use both. (Don't let the apple police hear this, but the Surface is better.)
