Not a good day

Was having a great day touring to the mainland car shopping, but when we got almost back home a Carolla driver decided, at the last second, to make a hail mary
left turn into my path. Afterward he said "I thought I could make it, man". Well he didn't and I had no way to avoid him. SOB.

The Hotrod not damaged to badly, had seatbelts on, was a little below posted speed,
my car all up to date, daytime running lights, insured, licenced, legal, both of us sober etc.,

Other guy about 45 yrs old, driving his mommy's car. The police officer said "yeah, I know him I was talking to his mom just this morning" Why?? I said. Oh, another matter, he said.. WTF

Anyway nobody hurt, "Maybe a blister on my little finger, maybe a blister on my thumb"

nice structural integrity

Parts can be replaced, you not as easily. Glad you're okay!
Tough break after all the recent work

masraum 10-15-2016 03:38 PM

Bummer. Fortunately, you guys are OK, and the hotrod is not too bad all things considered.

The Toyota driver knew he'd been hit by something fairly sturdy. Plastic parts flying
everywhere. Luckily for both cars we were only going 40Km or maybe 50Km (about 35 mph), city speeds.

Fast enough to spin his car around.

That's a drag YP, did it damage the steering/ front suspension?

Did the officer give the other guy a ticket?

Got to wonder what the visit earlier was about, and if that matter could have fit into your encounter.

Hoping his insurance does you right.
It it going to be hard to do repairs and maintain the patinaed look?

Glad you are ok, well except for being pissed off.

Cheers Richard

I almost dread opening threads with such titles. Sorry to read this. Hope his insurance is good.

LEAKYSEALS951 10-15-2016 03:57 PM

Glad everyone is okay. Sorry about your car.

ps... My heart secretly swells with pride when an American car so completely kicks the s#$%#$#$# out of an import and suffers so little damage!!! Good work! :D

Glad you're OK & the car didn't experience too much damage. The guy sounds like another looser. It's dangerous enough out on the roads, but guys like him increase that danger disproportionately. The inconvenience of it all just makes it worse. Hope you get the car fixed up right and soon.

Hopefully, this 45 year old loser driving mommy's car HAS insurance...

Good luck with this.

The officer issued a ticket for failing to yield right of way. Steering seems OK, but the front of the frame like all hotrods (the horns) that stick out below the radshell are a bit bent and the engine is just a bit cockeyed in the engine bay. We have great shops here, AND the builder of this hot rod had just pulled in behind me and saw the whole thing as it happened!! (He was coming from Halifax and I was coming from Moncton) So we had a good look, .and I think we've got it covered.

Some fairly hard to find parts though. Especially the chrome rad shell is twisted, so???.......And my drivers door is not quite shutting right. So, a bit of damage. May even be written off. We'll see. Thanks to you all for looking and feelin' (even for a non Porsche car).

Thanks for understanding. YP. PS My builder friend has arms like tree trunks and a hot temper, I was kinda worried he might rip the head off this poor man who cut me off. But he didn't. He did say "WTF were you trying to do??"

Police said he has insurance, hope so.

Arizona_928 10-15-2016 07:03 PM

Hopefully enough insurance, and hopefully you have good underinsured. ^^

RKDinOKC 10-15-2016 07:12 PM

Probably driving his Mom's car because in the previous weeks he already wrecked his and his wife's!

dafischer 10-15-2016 08:46 PM

Sorry to see this, and I hope it all works out okay. Doesn't matter that it's not a Porsche, it's still a cool old car, and I think we're all here since we like cool old cars.

oldE 10-16-2016 02:43 AM

Dennis,
Glad you folks are alright. As was said above :cars can be fixed or replaced, people not so much.
On the other hand, i"m not surprised he thought he could make it. Everyone knows old cars don't really go very fast.

Best
Les

I drive with my headlights on all the time now.

I guess that is my way of saying what is it with people nowadays ? Glad you are OK. I always liked that car.

yellowperil 10-16-2016 04:01 AM

FYI, Here's a pic or two of the cars we were shopping for http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476619002.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1476619097.jpg

Nothing came of it, though.

Thanks again for all the well wishes, we'll be back at it soon, I hope

That actually means it transfers more of the energy from the crash to you. Modern cars are designed to break up, crush and bend to absorb impact energy. Older cars will take significantly less damage in a crash, but you will take significantly more damage.

Old Hot Rod.
(open C tube frame)?
Plus modern seat belt and head airbag restraint system.

Best of both worlds.
