81 Alfa 2000 - distributor to coil wire

Wire/bundle from distributor to coil "relay" is frayed at relay connection. I know nothing of how this works except if I jiggle the wire while starter is being cranked the car will attempt to start.

I need to replace. Where do I source? Just looking for a solid vendor.

I was going to recommend IAP to you Bob, but a little research shows they were bought out by Centerline.
They're now known as Centerline International out of Colorado.

I would back the wires out of the plug with a pick or wire tool. Undo the crimps and remove wire bits. Re-crimp and solder them back to good wire after cutting off about an inch.

Vick Autosports is solid for Fiat and Alfa parts. I have used Bayless for my Fiat's parts, but I can't recall whether they also sell Alfa parts. I was going to mention IAP too.

Looks like the issue may be all those frayed wires are shorting against each other.

I'd take a stab at cleaning it up first.

Yeah.

Rub needle-nose pliers gently in the direction of wire twist, snip off all remaining frays, coat with tiny bit of liquid electrical tape to keep them apart and sealed.
Retry starting.
That might be an easy fix without too much effort.

Yes. No doubt.

Good idea.

These wires are definitely the problem. I can put the secondary coil wire to ground and see intermittent spark if I wiggle that cluster.

Will check pricing first. Thanks for the vendor info.
