Luckily something didn't go "boom", just "clack clack clack" like something in the valve train gave. I have a thread in the Boxster/Cayman forums here.

The failure rate for these engines is low by comparison to other brands - but if it happens be ready to pay. I am not, and will aim for a later generation Cayman (in the future), or avoid the problem entirely by goimg with a 996/997 turbo.

Never make buying emotional.....
just look at the "book" and read what it is worth, and go from there.
Never pay more, pay less.
Unless it is a rare bird.

For that price you should be looking at a 2009 Carrera S....

Any other good Cayman forums other than planet9? My brother is about to pull a trigger on a new one. Looking to see if there are any good 718 used ones out there at a lower price.

i believe those are also in the range of a propensity of an output shaft oil leak. ive been kinda looking for one as well and found this article.

From that article:

"Later Boxsters and Caymans, such as the 2006-’08 models, have a larger, non-serviceable bearing that cannot be changed without disassembly of the engine. Fear not: When you have your clutch done and rear main seal changed, you can also have the grease seal removed from the factory bearing. This allows engine oil to better cool and lubricate the bearing, which should result in longer service life."

Highly questionable advice IMHO.

Ahh, the thread is from 2016. I kind of doubt the guy is still looking.

My apologies....I should have probably started a new thread than resurrect this one.

FYI some new 718's are well over 100k now. WOW!

Sorry, but that just strikes me as nuts. $100k for a 4 banger. I would honestly rather have tesla model S or a Taycan.

Funny how I went from waiting to see my first C8 several months ago to seeing one almost everyday now.

I'm really disappointed in Porsche for going to a 4 cylinder turbo in the 718 but at least they offer a 4 liter GTS now. If I was in the market for a new sportcar, the 4 liter would be top of my list. Even at $100K for the 4.0 GTS, I'd take it over a 911.

I feel the same. If I wanted a 4 banger, I would get a WRX. The 718 sounds like garbage IHMO.

No, you shouldn't have, nor do you need to.

I promise you, anyone too inattentive or too lazy to glance left and see the post dates will get burned once. Then they'll look from then on.

Prob happened to us all at some point. I know it did with me.

It's actually one of the things I like about this place. Love seeing those old discussions.

Wow... $99k for a subie?

I kid, I kid. I'm sure that turbo 4 is a ton of fun. I would still take a NA6 or turbo 6 over a turbo 4 - especially at that price tag.
