Price check on 1972 MBZ 350SL
A co worker's fater in law passed recently. He had a 1972 Mercedes 350SL that he had bought from original owner (I think) in 2002. It has lived in So Cal all it's life, currently in Pasadena.
What I know is: 140k on the clock, original paint and chrome, car runs and is mechanically sound except: Parking brake doesn't work Turn signals need work on the wiring After market muffler needs replacing Hoping the brain trust can help place a reasonable price on this, I know there are a lot of variables in these old cars, just looking for a ballpark. I'm not interested in purchasing but if a fellow Pelican is I can put you in touch. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Going by your assessment - mechanically sound, original finish yet no detailed description of condition (blems, touch-up, corrosion disclosure?), has hard top but unknown of soft, non original wheels nor OEM wheel covers, unknown if AC functioning.
Being its a 2 owner history CA car and the best year to have (350SL - 4.5 L equipped for US market only) and small bumper, ballpark is $10k. Great car, no frilly wood trim, crank window reg's, classic Becker tunes but are stale for collectors. Maybe someday they will make a comeback.

Always like the thin bumper series, especially with the painted hubcaps. Nice evolution from the 280. Several mechanics who work on Mercedes I have met along life's travels always recommended buying the 450SL over the 350SL. They felt it was a better engine. I don't know from any personal experience one way or the other, just putting it out there.

The -->US version<-- 350SL has a 4.5 liter (450SL) engine. This particular year also has more pep, less choked down vs. following years.

I have no idea what it's worth, other than it's not worth much. eBay would be the best resource for this answer if you can find something similar.

https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/mercedes-benz/350sl You know if Beverly Hills Car Club, has 2 for less than 10K, that is kind of top dollar. May $8K for a fast sale? Does it have both tops?
