Big fight at the Unclebilly abode... help please.

When you are Halloweening, do you yell, 'Trick or Treat' or 'Halloween Apples'?

pete3799 10-31-2016 03:53 PM

Trick or treat.
In Canada it's trick or treat eh.

Halloween apples?

fintstone 10-31-2016 03:56 PM

Halloween apples? Never heard the phrase.

LWJ 10-31-2016 04:00 PM

Trick or treat. Sometimes, it is trick or drink. But not always.

wayner 10-31-2016 04:08 PM

Halloween apples sound like some new age politically correct phrase made up by the mom of that kid down the street with the pudding bowl haircut who isn't allowed to utter the traditional threat for non payment of said treats...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/heks.gif

WTF are you talking about?

Trick or Treat.

Or is this some sort of weird adult Halloween thing that I've never heard of and these would be considered halloween apples?

Halloween apples will lead to tp'ing, and other unwanted shenanigans.

wdfifteen 10-31-2016 04:47 PM

My grandfather used to warn me not to step in the horse apples when we walked across the pasture. I wonder if there is a connection?

stealthn 10-31-2016 04:59 PM

Must be a Canadian thing, I always said Haloween Apples!

rattlsnak 10-31-2016 05:01 PM

WTH are you talking about? I was curious and googled it. nothing..

Hendog 10-31-2016 05:58 PM

Yep, probably a Canadian thing 'cause I would interchenge them when I was a kid in Saskatoon.

unclebilly 10-31-2016 06:15 PM

Hah! We always yelled Halloween Apples, kind if like a hockey taunt...

unclebilly 10-31-2016 06:20 PM

Probably better that my kids yell 'Trick or Treat' given that Blackie is where we go on Halloween.

From Wikipedia:

While the first reference to "guising" in North America occurs in 1911, another reference to ritual begging on Halloween appears, place unknown, in 1915, with a third reference in Chicago in 1920.[23]

The earliest known use in print of the term "trick or treat" appears in 1927, from Blackie, Alberta:

Hallowe’en provided an opportunity for real strenuous fun. No real damage was done except to the temper of some who had to hunt for wagon wheels, gates, wagons, barrels, etc., much of which decorated the front street. The youthful tormentors were at back door and front demanding edible plunder by the word “trick or treat” to which the inmates gladly responded and sent the robbers away rejoicing.[24]

Apples here growing up. When nut jobs started sticking pins and razor blade chunks in the apples they lost their appeal to the masses. As a kid I remember having apple pie and apple betty for days after Halloween. :)

We had 60 kids on our doorstep for Halloween last night and my wife's sister had 166. Unbelievable.

At my friend's house, we gave away an average of 900 bags every year. We even had a haunted house. Lots of the moms were mighty fine!

Coworker of mine, used to set up a massive Halloween display at their house. Most bags they gave out was 1998. Cops had to block the street due to all the kids.

I yelled "Halloween Apples" for the first time last night and was promptly assaulted by angry parents. The fact that I was alone, not in a costume may have played a role.

But still, be careful out there.
