This weeks new cars
Look at this nice little Acadian Canso, six automatic, original paint. Wow. Oh yeah and this Hellcat.
We figure there's about 700 HP difference in those two cars. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Wow, I've never even **heard** of an Acadian.

Having grown up near the US/Canada border we saw these versions frequently. It's always odd to see a "Chevelle" but it has the "wrong" front end.

In Canada we had both the Chevy II and it's Pontiac counterpart.
My Dad had a 62 Acadian four door (white with red interior) and a '67 Acadian four door (blue on blue) both were very basic and taught young drivers about "conservation of energy". Unfortunately they didn't go around corners very well. There was a Pontiac version of the Chevelle as well called the Acadian Beaumont. I remember driving one (a '68) with a six and the two speed "slushbox". That car didn't as much accelerate as it accumulated velocity. Best Les

That two door Acadian would be fun to have as a good street car, the body is just enough different you could strip the chrome that marked it Canadian and clean it up. Most people wouldn't have any idea what it was, your custom. You can sit around at shows and listen to people talk about what they think it is. Of course it would have to have a crate chevy and a Muncie four speed.

Is that a GM tissue dispenser under the ashtray? Pretty much no options on that car...a true "stripper".

Yeah, the old "slip and slide Powerglide". Perfect description of the "acceleration".

Make Bruins Great Again

"Accumulated velocity" reminds me of the performance of the VW bus.

I can't be the only one thinking that the Acadian would be much more interesting with the Hellcat Hemi . . .

That hellcat is quite a muscle car. Just like the old days.
The Acadian would make a nice little show car too. Doesn't need much. |

I believe that Acadian (and Beaumont, which IIRC was first an Acadian model and then its own 'brand' - the later ones were like a slightly Pontiac-y Chevelle) were created because of the distribution model in Canada - there were Chevy dealers, and BOP dealers (basically, budget on the one hand and higher-line on the other). The high-line dealers didn't have a low-budget model to help with volume, and the combination of large size and sparse population make it relatively harder to make money without a budget line. Not sure what changed that led to the brand(s) being discontinued, which was around the end of the 60s, I think.

The Acadian (rebadged Chevy II) became the Ventura and the Beaumont badge was replaced by the Lemans badge in1970.

Drove the Hellcat today
Holy doodle! I'd like to say that the sound of that exhaust at full throttle is unbelievable, I'd like to say that, but that would be a bare as*ed lie. I never got anywhere near "full throttle", as I'm almost a hundred years old, I was lucky to get out of the parking lot. Well, that's a lie too. I just sat in the parking lot and blipped the throttle. But that was enough for me. Wow. Don't know how it drives, but man it sounds awesome, and that ain't no lie. Just my opinion.
