Sexual Harassment; What are (some) guys thinking?

With all of the new allegations coming out of guys in power harassing women who work for them, (or not), like Roger Ailles, etc., it begs the question: WTF are they thinking? That it's going to get them some free tail? I've never tried sexual assault or harassment, so I have no idea if it succeeds but it seems counterintuitive when you want someone to like you enough to get naked.

Anywhoo, this one is a real head-scratcher to me. An almost 60 y.o. guy, ugly as a fking toad tries to grab a reporter interviewing him and kiss her. Just out of the clear blue sky. And fwiw, he's not exactly Bill Gates or some other known zillionaire. He's a newspaper columnist in Israel. This also made me wonder about the culture there; I've always understood it to be a highly advanced society, as modern as it gets.

I guess that most folks don't necessarily realize that they are "ugly as a fking toad"...and that attempting to kiss a woman that thy are attracted to (and believe there is mutual attraction) is normal...at least where I live. I see lots of homely guys with attractive women...myself included. Personally, it has never occurred to me that my age has made me less capable of a relationship. Why not just say "I'm flattered, but just not interested." instead of ruining his life/career? Because she could use it to advance her career? She did not work for him and he did not force himself on her...beyond attempting a kiss. It is not like he was the President doing an intern that worked for him in the oval office (both on work time paid by the taxpayer)...and then lying about it under oath.

If you turn it around...and she had attempted to kiss him (or you), would you find it harassment as well...or do you have a double standard?

Hey Fint, how about if some gay guy you were in a professional situation with just grabbed your head and tried to kiss you on the mouth w no warning? Just tell him you're not interested?

Because that's the closest analogy possible, in terms of how unwelcome and not provoked his actions were. Did you not read the article?

Actually no. The fact that you believe that it is harassment because he is homely and not wealthy tells me much. I submit that if he was a rich and good looking, she might have welcomed the exact same act...which, to me, makes it not harassment. I doubt that younger, better looking guy would have asked permission either.

I imagine that he felt he gave her plenty of warning and that he felt she was interested. She did not describe a rape scenario, but rather, an attempted kiss. Gently putting you hands on a woman's face, neck or back of her head is not really abnormal when kissing. Most folks don't get written permission before a first kiss. Most folks also don't write an article about every guy they reject.

I'm curious, at your age...do you not date attractive younger women? Do you get written permission brfore you kiss them?

It could happen. I'm ugly as a toad. Of course I didn't grab at her or force myself on her - in fact it took a few years for her to get to know me and decide we were compatible, and she's not 25 years younger that me - but it worked out.

It would not matter if the guy was richer or more attractive, in the same scenario it would still be sexual assault. It's just compounded in this instance by the gross imbalance in desirability and the fact that he tried to claim that it was a "courtship situation ".

Which is probably a typical defense for creeps like this. As for him, "not knowing that he is ugly," every human being, unless they are mentally ill, knows their approximate worth in the dating marketplace. The idea that he would think this young woman, who is about a 10 and educated, would have the hots for him w/o giving any indication is absurd. I have a newsflash; hot 25-30 y.o. women are not interested in 60 y.o. guys. Unless you are Brad Pitt, forget it. And she could have the young Brad Pitt dude out there.

Lastly, yes, I do sometimes punch above my weight class in terms of dating which I attribute to living in LA, where there is a serious surplus of beautiful women. Would I try to kiss a woman without a serious green light? Hell no. I've never had to prostrate myself like that for some action.
