PDX area - What to do with old vinyl records...

Been cleaning out the garage today and ran across a box of vinyl records. Most of this is classical musical (Mozart, Schubert, etc). I have no idea where I got this - I haven't had a functioning record player for 30+ years.

Any suggestions where to take this in the PDX area?

In the event I run across anything "useful", does anybody here collect old vinyl?

Music Millennium on Burnside, Everyday Music on Sandy, any number of music shops scattered around on the East side - Mississippi St, Hawthorne blvd come to mind.

Hmmmmm...Are the records in good shape? I might be interested. My mother lives down in Turner, she could pick them up...

Classic rock, blues or jazz? My 14 yr old son would be in heaven. Funny thing, he collects it and doesn't have a turntable!

They may be worth something if you want to take the time to research.

Sorry - No metal/goth/punk.

Records appear to be in good shape. I really don't know how I ended up with these.

There is some "almost modern stuff" that might have some value:

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Peter, Paul, and Mary (self-titled)
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Simon and Garfunkles Greatest Hits
Soundtrack from Grease

Larry - There is one record of Joshua Ripkin playing Scott Joplin (if that counts).

There's a few bluegrass/"hillbilly" albums.

A couple of Bill Cosby albums.

The majority (~50 albums) is various orchestras/symphonies playing the classics.

The problem with value is that the stuff you mentioned was pressed and sold in Extremely large quantities. It would have to be some sort of special pressing to be worth anything.

Curious about the 14yo collecting records with no turntable...

I just looked those up by serial number and there's nothing special about 'em - no real value there.

I really don't remember how these came to be in my garage. Anybody want them? If not, I'll donate to Music Millennium or some similar store.

Take anything classical to a local old folks home before you drop off the records at a local record store. They would probably just dump them if they can't sell them very quickly. The newer stuff would have to be in pretty good shape for the record shop to monetize them.

I'm a landlord to a used vinyl shop here in Seattle and they toss hundreds a week into the dumpster.
