How long until everything is USB-C?

How long before all peripherals and cables are USB-C?

I had to stream some video to a TV a while ago. Wife's computer didn't have HDMI or video port. Another laptop had USB and Thunderbolt but no HDMI. I dug through my bins but couldn't find an adapter. My laptop had HDMI so we had to use that, which was irritating since I had to finish some work using it at the same time.

This story gets repeated frequently. There are too many damn port types. USB-A, micro USB, mini USB, printer USB, DisplayPort, video, HDMI, Ethernet, Lightning, Thunderbolt, etc.

Apple seems to be going to only USB-C ports on laptops. This seems really irritating in some ways, but if or when everything goes USB-C, life will be so much easier.

Usually takes about 3 months except for HDMI. The Media device makers are usually slow to adopt interfaces just sticking with HDMI. It took a long time for Receivers and Players and even TVs to adopt HDMI. People don't replace their media equipment as often as their computer equipment. For streaming to my TV I use my Apple TV and AirPlay on my laptops newer than 2011.

Back in 1991 heard about Apple coming out with Firewire. They talking about it being the only interface including Monitors, TV's, Drives, Keyboards, Mice, Headphones, Speakers, even Networking. That was back when fast ethernet was 10mb and wifi did not exist.

The MacBook Air with it's ability to boot and install from the CD on another Mac on the network was a sign of things to come.

Video is the worst. TVs have S video, Component, Composite, coax, HDMI, and monitors have DisplayPort, mini DisplayPort, HDMI, video . . . The thing you want to plug in never has the same port as the thing you want to plug it into, and if you want to plug in two things you're always out of luck. It's a jumble and I really hope it gets fixed.
