Being a former NA owner I have been on the Miata BBS and boy howdy the Miata boys do love to hotrod their Miata's, everything form crazy turbos setups, V6's, rotary's... and yes, the almighty American V8.

I believer there is a thread here on the latest Flyin Miata's V8 beast.

And my experience from karting, most drivers are pretty darn cruddy.
If you want to talk as fast as, its got to be relevant by having the same poor or good driver on the same day in the same conditions.
Once you get two different drivers, with two different risk tolerances, on public roads, forget comparisons. You'll only look dumb.

gorgeous jag. i love the lines of that car.

I'd happily drive a Moosetang. ;)

Hey, I'm still driving one. Actually, at this stage of my life, it serves me well. A bit boring because it's a compromise car that does everything well but nothing in a spectacular manner. On the other hand, it yields over 20 mpg average, is quite comfortable and easy to drive, and parts and service are cheap compared to a P-car. It just turned 24,000 miles with zero problems since April of '09, the day I drove it off a dealer's lot.

Maybe I wrote the bit because in my usual routes, I seldom see an exotic car. I was also struck by how well this one was being driven, none of the crazy moves we've all seen being done by the drivers of hot hatches, and yes..some in Mustangs. And then there are those Mangus Walker Porsche moves.

Oregon is not a state full of wealthy people. Oh, there is Phil Knight, and then the highest paid public employees, the football coaches at U of O... But generally, not a state where wealth is flaunted. Nothing like Southern Cal or other enclaves of the rich.

Then, I did want to make that point...on a clogged up 2 lane freeway, nobody is fast.

But plenty are stupid...

Modern cars that have great creature comforts and affordable maintenance are nice to own. I still have a modern V8 Mustang on my short list.

I'm 6' 2", and found the Mustang just a tad too cramped. I could of cross shopped a new Mustang with Warranty vs the used Jaguar $ for $. It just didn't fit my frame, and I needed space as I'm not as young and bendable as I once was.

Aside from the tighter interior, the Mustang would of probably won out. The Turbo 4 would be an interesting machine to own in warranty. Bwarrrap bwarraapp from a Mustang. SmileWavy

its true. more fun throwing a around a stock miata on all seasons on the street than something with big power, real suspension, and sticky tires. those things make the car boring as **** on the street.

now, on the track ... thats different. but there is no point to those kind of things on the street.

The only thing I know about Mustangs is that the latest GT fastback is a good looking car in the right color going down the freeway next to me. :)

I'm 6'3"...looked at a 370Z before going to the Mustang....Uh, the Z car was definitely a no fit for me. Seat back all the way in my '09 gives adequate room,
But thinking about it, my Bullitt model got the same seating as the GT500 of the same year. Power adjustments on the drivers side...might be a bit roomier than the GT?

Maseratis are common here. You can still enjoy those cars, but you may have to wait until rush hour is over.

sammyg2 11-14-2016 06:34 AM

It's only racing if both cars are aware of it ;)

Lots of Maserati quattroportes for sale in LA are in the $20k range, many need "a LITTLE WORK".

I would of been looking at the smaller current generation.

Didn't try sitting in the current generation Mustang...so no clue. Never occurred to me it might have less room than the s197 version.

Actually when you place 'em side by side, the current Mustang looks bigger than mine.

The only thing that I know about Mustangs is not to stand at the roadside when they are leaving Cars n Coffee.

It'd be the same for Miata's if the Miata could move faster than a walk. :p

I bet a Maserati can't even get a ticket for 208 MPH.

Tervuren 11-16-2016 03:32 PM

Yesterday I was out driving, thought I saw a Jaguar XK ahead.

So I set my cruise control a little faster, whatever it was, my Jaguar XK was faster than it. As I got closer, I saw the dual tail pipes and chromed plastic vertical side vent that let me know it was a 4.2L XK, like mine.

I set my cruise control down a few MPH, and suddenly, I was just as fast as another Jaguar XK!!! Wowza! Then I realized it wasn't in the proper lane, it was hogging the middle lane, and my being near it would obstruct traffic.

So I raised my cruise control, and then I wasn't just as fast as the other Jaguar XK, my Jaguar XK was even FASTER! I slowly watched it fade into my rear view mirror.

Conclusion, my Jaguar XK was for a little bit as fast as their Jaguar XK, but then it turns out my Jaguar XK was even Faster! Woot!
