Carroll Shelby
Carroll Shelby's name is associated with a chili fixings kit. The kit consists of spices in several packets in a miniature brown paper bag. On the side of the bag is a story related by Shelby about cooking chili during his racing days. On the front of the bag is a depiction of a big western black hat, a trademark piece of clothing for Shelby. He was a founder of the Terlingua International Chili Championship in Terlingua, Texas
Did not know this and somehow this is what my wife is cooling in a crock pot all night for a Chili Lunch cook off tomorrow. |
How does it taste?
|
Does it taste like...Victory?
|
I'm guessing it goes through you fast and leaves skid marks and a burning sensation.
|
Let us know how it turns out...bet it's good. I've seen it for years on the shelves, but can't imagine making chili from a kit...
Kit Chili = Kit Cobra :) Fun...but not the real deal imo... |
Have been using it for a few years and the kids and I have not wanted for anything else since finding it...but I would rather own a really nice ERA cobra or GT than an original. SmileWavy

Shelby's mix makes good chili, to me the secret being to use good meat, i.e. don't use ground hamburger. Good chili grind beef mixed about 2:1 with some ground pork does the trick for me. and good luck at the cookoff. |

It's been around for ten, maybe 20 years at least. I've made it a few times - good stuff.
|
It is likely ok.
Shelby would endorse anything or put his name on anything that could make him money. |
After waiting all night we are very happy with my wife's Cobra Chili. She selected his White chili and used chicken, roasted corn, tequila and lime. No skid marks and there a no rules in the contest an it is a wife's friends......Go Cobra.

I bought a bag last winter just to see if it's like I remember it. I still like it, but there's better recipes. There's also a lot of bad chili out there. |
Been using it for years, I go heavy on the cayenne and sriracha and light on the masa.
I usually throw in some sausage and a squirt of maple syrup, just to make it interesting. |

I prefer the narrow body that you posted above to the widebody 427 cobra look that is so common. Quote:

We've been eating it for many years. I think it is great, and you can "customize" it to suit your taste.
I believe Shelby sold the chili company many years ago. |

But you didn't :) Time for me to make a batch...probably toss in a can of black beans just because I can.... My problem is the peppers, and it never comes out the same way twice....sometimes it gets a bit warm but not by design...but I ain't building kit chili either :). |
