80s style car radio solution
This is a discussion going on in the Tech forum, but I thought maybe some here might be interested.
This radio works really well, has a somewhat 80s look, but modern features like Bluetooth, USB etc. VDO Radio with USB and Bluetooth - 12 Volt - Blue LED - without Harness At $140 it's a great deal, too. The only thing I (and others) didn't really like is the "Continental" label on it. To give a little more of an '80s feel to my project car, I had Blaupunkt and Reno decals made. So it looks like this now: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1479063264.jpg The lighting is kind of weird, in real life it's a really good match and no one would ever notice that it is not original. I had these made for myself, but if anyone is interested, you can get them from the graphic artist. Paypal $15 to Dave at ragedriftdesigns@yahoo.com, give him your mailing address and he'll send a set out to you. I don't make anything from this, I'm just passing it on for those that might be interested. |
Hard to get an accurate picture. A little less blurry

I have a similarly styled modern Blaupunkt in my SC, it blends in well.

For a real blast from the 80s look to period Mcintosh head units - guarantee that nothing looks like it......you can find them occasionally on Ebay
|
I installed a complete Mcintosh setup in my 911.

The 3000 GT unit was one of the first I remember having a front facing input jack. Right around the time that mp3 players started getting popular. The FM transmitters and tape deck adaptors never really didi it for me. |
More buttons and lights!! My Saab Clarion audio system in my 1991 9000...three single DIN decks, tape and CD, dancing equalizer lights!
