Best price on Por15?

Maybe I should have posted this on the tech board but does anyone have a source for a good price on Por15 rust treatment? The stuff is really pricey and may be it's the same everywhere but I thought I'd ask.

TIA.

I didn't find much difference in price. I wound up using Chasis Saver. Cost less and was basically the same stuff.

No savings on paint, but cheap phosphoric acid etcher from Home Depot is cheaper than the POR equivalent, and appears to be the same thing.

Etch before you paint.

Por15 is so toxic I won't use it again. Also it can be brittle.

I am very happy with zero rust, much cheaper, storable, can recoat...

Interesting, thanks. The product you like is called, "Zero Rust"?

Good read:

http://autobodystore.com/forum/showthread.php?11872-Zero-Rust-is-nothing-more-than-a-Rustoleum-type-paint

I have had great results w/ POR-15, but am going to try Rust Bullet since its available locally.

I've tried so many rust products.

POR-15, when properly used, is really amazing.

It's expensive, and it can be a pain to use (getting it on your hands is terrible!), and it isn't for every job, but when it's done right it can last for decades.

It is storable, too.

I get a bunch of these cheap airtight very small jars, and store the POR 15 in them separately.

Otherwise, it is hard to store. It is so sensitive to air, and it seals itself so tight if any air gets in, or if you get any POR on the sealing surface, that you can't really store it in a large jar that you open and close every time you need to use it.

With those jars, I've been able to store POR-15 for many, many years.

I put a pinhole in the lid and then seal the can w/ aluminized tape. I then just pour what i need into a disposable cup and brush out of there.

Good idea except for the fact it has to be stirred after sitting any great length of time - at least that has been my experience.

Cheers

I've heard that it will weld the cap on the paint can it comes in after use. I've read a bit on hot rod forums and apparently "Rust Bullet" is very popular and preferred over Por15 by many. They are different products, though. I'm about to just hit the metal w Rustoleum red oxide primer after grinding all the loose rust off. That's been my method for ever and it stops it pretty well.

POR15 is easy to store. Put a plastic bag between the lid and the can. Done. I also store cans upside down in the fridge. Never had a problem. POR15 is great stuff. Wurth Rust Guard sucks BTW.

Yes. A few local stores here in Seattle sell it over the counter. I got red and black quarts, alternate layers so you can ensure coverage. Similar to por15 it blocks air.

I had por15 work really well, and another project it dried to be too Brittle. Mostly though it is insanely toxic, not worth it.

The zero rust can be sanded and repainted, but I haven't needed to. Goes on with a paint brush or roller, also can spray it. I also tried a few rustoleum products but they're not in the same league as por15 and zero rust. Not tried rust bullet but heard good things, I think similar to zero rust.
