I always get nervous when I see Jerry Seinfeld driving all those "comedians and cars" classics through NYC. I wouldn't drive my SC through there, let alone some of the classics he has. Heck, I wouldn't risk my bicycle near NYC! Good luck!

Ever see an accident in the grids of NYC? Neither have I.

Yeah - update..

I've moved to NY (Brooklyn)...and got snowed under!

Good news is - found storage in NJ 20x25" for approx $300/month. Could be worse.
Now for my engine build to be completed and car shipped from Texas when done...tick tock.

JabsZA et all,

Congrats on the move and finding a safe space for your car. Sounds like a sound solution .
I searched Craigslist and after a few dead-ends I found and okay space in Queens. It's a 5 mile Bike ride away or I drive one of my other cars to go work on my Porsche. ( Watch for coming suspension thread) It's private, cheap and safe. Lots of people living nearby. Owner is a cool guy, we are almost pal's. Been there 6 years. Downsides are numerous:
Shared space with others which is fine, good people, a great Ex-Marine. But there is a nice old lady with a Buick. It is really as bad as you can imagine, she sometimes she parks in such a way I cannot get my car out (!) I mentioned this to her many times. She forgets or its too dark for her too park correctly?
Roof leaks. Yup. I made a "pig tarp" which collects rain water, ( time to empty the bucket, will do that tomorrow.) Ummmm...lets see, speaking of water , I checked the NOAA Flood Map and it is, possibly, "below water" during storm surge , though Sandy was fine, its the NEXT one you have to worry about, very disconcerting Storm Map. At $200 a month its a bargain. They best part of the story is I have off -street parking in Brooklyn for 2 or 3 cars, outside, and for free, (lucky / long story) But after 20 years that is going to end soon. At least the Porsche is safe for now. Ideally, I almost got two pals to rent the whole Queens-space with me and we planned to put in a lift, get a fridge and a stereo..of course a rolling tool chest, but that did not pan out, alas. Would have been the coolest set up. It is good to be only 5 miles away, I tell you, when the wrenching spirit kicks in, I head over: goal to free the car from jack stands in 40 days!
lots of sacrifices to living in the city, some advantages. Driving is not so bad there are good drivers in this town, I have to say, surprised. Road surface is hell, so the Porsche is only for heading out of town.

hi Kraftwerk,

If you ever resurrect the idea of clubbing some funds with other folks in order to rent a bigger place exclusively - let me know.

I might have found storage on the "cheap" - but there is a strict, no fiddle policy. They dont even have electricity to plug in a battery minder. I have made a plan and am connecting a battery switch to ensure it doesn't drain...but still...

So yes, would be more than happy to pitch in and rent some space with like minded folks and somewhere where i can fiddle on the car.

JabZA,
Will do. If you leave your car over the winter, take the battery with you and keep it in your warm apartment & plug it into a trickle-charge-battery / tender now and again.

Keep an eye on craigslist. I rented a one car private garage in Jersey City for several years. No issues working on the car there...I R&Red the engine from my 930 in that garage. It cost me $175/month initially, and went up to $200 during my lease. No electricity or running water though. I passed it along to another pcar enthusiast when I was ready to move on.

As an alternative to the storage facility you found, I'd suggest also looking at the Columbus Garage (@55 Columbus Dr. Jersey City). There is probably a wait list for monthly permits, but as of last year I was paying <$300/month. This is a regular parking garage so you can't do repairs there, but its immediately adjacent to the Grove St. PATH station so is pretty convenient to access from NYC via public transportation.
