Hacksaw Ridge

It's a story I wasn't familiar with but I am now. Go see it then we'll talk.

On our short list, was it very gory? My wife is rather squeamish.

Crowbob 11-18-2016 03:44 PM

Mel Gibson is never gory.

I've seen it. Go see it, Do NOT take your wife. No way.

Way better than I ever thought it could be. Especially the end credits.

Very gory, very.

Afterburn, I understand your point but the guy was willing to go into the field , into battle without a weapon. He served as a medic, do you feel that way about all medics?

As a result of flatt's post, I sent info to my g/f who's in the medical field - emergency.
She wants to go see it.
"Nothing's too gory for me. I once worked in the Trauma Room with the knife and gun club of downtown Phoenix. Let's go see it."
.
Not too sure for me - Vietnam...y'all know the rest.

If you do have issues with PTSD it might not be for you. Yes, it is a fantastic movie! My wife handled it The story is fantastic!

I now want a BAR to go along with my Garand and M1 Carbine!

My point they made a hero out of a guy for being brave enough to go to battle to save lives.
I am glad they all did not show up with that ideology or we would probably be speaking german .
He gets an A for obeying his conscience .

Nah
Not gonna go do it / see it.
I know the guy is painted as a hero, But what if half the troops decided to play that game ?
What if half sat through the great war?
Then Hacksaw would be seen entirely different .
As a vet perhaps I see things differently.

Maybe if you knew the whole story you might feel differently. He refused to sit out the war because he wanted to make a difference.
FWIW, no one can make you a hero. You have to do that yourself. I would say more, but I hate spoilers in movie threads. If you don't want to see the movie, fine, but please don't hog the thread making comments on something you haven't seen, and don't know anything about. Basing judgements on uninformed perceptions is not a good way to present yourself.

Go see the movie and then tell us how bad it sucks, or just be content to have had your say and leave it at that.

Saw it yesterday and really enjoyed the story. Doss was truly a man of remarkable conviction and bravery.

I was expecting gore from reading interviews with Gibson, but I was still surprised by the battle scenes. In fact, I'm not sure I want to see any more war movies if this is going to be the trend.

Watched it the other night. I can understand why it took so long to get made because of the subject material. Gory? Yes, but war is. I'd recommend seeing it. He was a Medal of Honor winner and that speaks volumes to the mans courage.

Maybe I missed it but his brother joined up and they never mentioned him again?

I'm seeing it later today with my son.

EDIT: Great movie. Lots of blood and guts but there's no way to tell this story without it.

If your interested there's lots of info online about Hacksaw Ridge & Desmond Doss.
